I use one, but my needs might be different than yours. I have some funky old amps (octal preamp tubes) that don't like a very hot input. The reamp box allows me to feed it at full line level (no fidelity loss), and thus feed the amp at a correct level and impedance. I also tend to use a standalone F...

I actually like the SM81s for overheads, but not so much for acoustic instruments. They sound kind of dark and a little boxey to my ears...probably why I like them as overheads, as they minimize the sizzle on cymbals. I have a pair of AKGC451s that I use a lot, and have coveted my friends Josephson ...

 to bofe of yooze! Also, you can use duct tape to get rid of plantar warts. I doubt it, but it'll do wonder for the "bikini area.' It's called DTOC, or Duct Tape Occlusion Therapy. For plantar warts (verruca), it's about as effective - in many cases, more effective - than salicylic a...

I like the K&M Heli stands - fold flat for storage, solid support, and I've never had any issues with nitro finishes. It's hard to beat the Manhasset stands - solid, can support big books and binders (even a laptop), and sturdy enough to write on. For portables, the Port-A-Stands are nice, as they h...

For amps and pedal use, the Lace is the way to go. It's hot enough to not need any sort of preamp, and is the right impendance match for the gear in front of it. The most natural sounding (i.e. not magnetic) pickup for guitar or dobro - and I've heard them all, from Fishman, Baggs, Highlander, McInt...

Next time pay with a US Postal money order with a "legally restrictive endorsement" on the back (where seller has to sign his name/endorse to be paid). Have the endorsement read "Paid in Full for XYZ", if it's an ebay auction have it read "Paid in Full of Ebay Auction #: XZY". Seller will sign his ...

These are nicely made, affordable, and shipping is pretty cheap.

He'll make them even shallower for no charge. I have a 10u that is 8" deep on my desk.

Is this a trick question? Next to modern convolution/emulation/infinitely tweakable reverb plug-ins that old Yamaha is basically a doorstop. The only practical use would be if you were using it FOR its limitations instead of in spite of them. whereas i prefer many hardware reverbs, even cheapish an...

I agree with Heylow that different techniques make a much bigger difference, and that each guitar is different. I generally don't like 80/20 anything - too bright and hashy to my ears. On little guitars - like my Gibson '60's B-25 and Bourgeois VOM, I use John Pearse Phosphor Bronze lights, and swap...

next best thing (maybe better) to an old Fender tank, recapped and retubed.
Small and great sounding, this is on my short list for 2008.

Joe used to fix my guitars in the pre-Reverend days when he had a little shop in what used to be called East Detroit (now Eastpointe, a nod to the city's more affluent neighbors, the various Grosse Pointes, and a marketing step to distance themselves from Detroit proper...but I digress.) Joe is a mu...
