The play or record at half tempo thing is just shift+space(command) but if you record to that it'll playback an octave high. fun effect but mostly just good for finding clicks and pops for me, or creaping out the clients. To be honest I'll just say a flat out no. Wish it did for some of my clients b...

Antidote for a TAC scorpion
Ok, long story short. Modding my 1985 Tac scorpion. Line stage gets padded down and then goes through a SSM2015 mic pre, not so nice. Since I only use it for mixdown out of the box I want to scrap the mic pres altogether making it line in only (which seems to be a common goal now with old scorpions)...

There's also a great new forum for various consoles (including one specific to Amek and TAC) at http://forum.analogconsole.com/
Colin from audiomaintenance and a bunch of old amek employees hang out there.

Ok, I've done some digging and I think that we're looking at pg 128 of the digikey catalog, figures 1A for female and 12B for male, 4pin for the faders and 10pin for the input and output. www.digikey.com Mine have a green stripe on the back which could mean they're the 28AWG but I don't know. Also d...

no. the faders are all soldered directly. the headphone one is the grey wire in the bottom right corner of your pic. Mine has the same type of molex so I'd be surprised if yours was different. If you prefer to snag it from one of the buss channels instead then just pull out the selected channel and ...

I'd like to replace mine aswell in my scorpion and will be scouring Digi-key in hopes of a match. If anyone finds them please inform us. In the meantime you could snag one from the headphone jack or one of the buss faders since the master faders are pretty vital. They all use the same 4 pin molex. T...

Really happy about MAC "spaces"
I understand that this makes me quite a mac nerd but this is going to be really nice. http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/spaces.html Just imagine a PT and plugin space, a tapeop forum and web browsing space, an email and buisness space. All organized neatly without having to tab between app's or F9...

Interesting little fact about cd player drift is that a friend of mine used to coach rhythmic gymnastics and the time limit for a piece was one minute. Some people would edit at home down to exactly one minute and then get docked points during the performance cause the song was stopwatched at 1:04, ...

Man oh man. My old studio used HD24 fireports to macs and when we talked to alesis we deduced by their tone of voice that we were the only ones in the world doing that setup. You could try Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. May have an option to dismount. I'll admit that I got so frustrated wi...

I built one aswell but I didn't like the bar at the top so I built my own. It can get a little tricky when boxes invisibly cover buttons but it's so nice to just throw together a page or update in minutes and just press publish. IT guys never updated my old stuff. I've really enjoyed my experience w...

I just faced a similar problem where I recorded a simple 8 track session at 88.2 and then later realized I needed it at 44.1 for various reasons we won't get into. I thought I'd have to consolodate all the files whick was bad cause there was still fades that may need to be streached out. I also had ...

yes follow the book. The mackie doesn't have a mic/line selector so the xlr connector goes directly to the mic pre. You'd be plugging a line level signal into a mic pre. You're right that the cable you want is a Y cable. I like calling them "tip-ring splitters" because they effectively split a singl...

Not as exciting but I'd say just get a mackie big knob. One could easily argue about avoiding the extra circuits or get picky about quality but I'd be easy and give you an entire master section of a console without a console. Selectable -10 or +4 inputs with gain, mute, dim, mono, talkbalk routing a...
