Check for "industrial electronics suppliers" in the phone book also. Usually they have standard connectors, cables, tools, solder, etc. You could always check digikey.com aswell. Watchout though cause a 40-50ft unbalanced run could get really noisy. I would call this type of cable a "tip-ring splitt...

A dynamic microphone works on the principle of electro-magnetic induction. A source noise moves a diaphram, attached to it is a voice coil that is surrounded by a magnet. The electro-magnetic induction creates an output voltage positive and negative as the voice coil vibrates back and forth through ...

Thanks so much for your input Brian. It doesn't sound quite worth it I guess though. I did do a lot of reading up on how virtual earth mixing works and it makes so much more sense now. I wish I could find some interesting way to do it though. Maybe as the inverting amplifier after the unity virtual ...

Passive Summing a possibility?
Please humor my limited electronics knowledge. I'm trying. About a year ago I read a tapeop post about creating a 16input passive summing box and then using your own mic pres as the buffer amps to make up for the loss in the resistor tree. Meaning that your summing sounds like your API pres one day ...

I'll see if I can dig it out now that it's not being sold. I do remember that a couple of the steps were wrong for the specific revision of the 3630 I had so watch out. Each rev had some changes and it's a good thing I caught mine. I've booked a time for the 002R mod with them and am tremendously ex...

Okay, story time. I worked on post for a movie a couple years ago and happened to spend a good amount of time sitting behind the foley engineer. He was one of those guys thats been through every transition in audio and has had to work under a huge variety of conditions. i expected him to have ridgid...

Re: splicing bocks?
yes.....although.......strange things happen. records found their own little DJ niche and now there is an increase each year in manufacturers that can press vinyl. minidisc whose sole advantages over cd were size and recording option (dispite a limited 32k bandwidth) also found a niche and managed t...

Re: alesis converters:adat/hd 24
we tested the HD24 and the MX2424 when our suite was shopping around. the fan noise on the HD24 was about half the volume and got quiter if you bought a quiter IDE drive than the included one. also, i have read countless articles and posts about the XR upgrade being worth it for more reasons than on...

i couldn't miss my chance to whine. i'm laying down 18000 canadian a year right now. it took me 4 years of busting my ass to get to that amount too. the good news is that i do get to do it for a living....sort of. i teach it half of the time. the bad news is that within a year or two i'll have to mo...

Re: 50s/60s Jazz Piano Sound
the best on those old recordings is when you hear the pianist singing along to their own solo. i love that. makes me think they didn't get their mics too close. you can just picture the guy leaning back and forth really getting into it.

Re: recording thru 32 bit AD/DA
the first solution would be to post your questions in the right topic. second, there is no such thing as a 32 bit ADC or DAC. infact there is no true 24 bit either. apparently all those 24 bit converters are actually 23 point something. the only way to achieve true 24, i was told, was at absolute ze...
