Re: Summing Bus
no electricity thus they don't even need to worry about a power supply. i'd be willing to bet that it costs $800 bucks just to give it credibility. no one would use it if they knew it was really only worth $100. except those who know better. does it really cost $80 to stamp NIKE on a cotton t-shirt.

not if you got the 96K converter option on the HD24 which only gives you 12 channels of 96K at a time.
actually i have heard that the 96k converters are a good upgrade and well worth it even if just being used at 48k. i'm still quite happy with the standards though myself for simple tracking.

anybody have an opinion of the avalon stereo opto-comp. 2044 i think. it's $$$$$$ but all of my favorite mastering houses seem to have them. what kind of sound do they have? how do they feel to work with?

Re: Help with my inputs!
yes about the pin config but i thought you were just supposed to wrap the bare wire around each screw and tighten, not stick it in the hole and tighten. wouldn't that just cut the wire and not end up all that strong? could be wrong though.

Re: mixer for Alesis HD24
i don't have one but i'm gonna second for a digital board. we use HD24 quite often at work and run it through a killer analog console but the wiring is a pain in the ass and shorts happen way too often. just to plug one HD in you'll need SIX eight channel 1/4inch snakes. that's expensive to buy or a...

Re: making cables look neat and what not
i actually went as far as to braid like-type cables. such as 4 direct outs to a multitrack or the sends to couple of compressors. it keeps them really clean and all together. i guess i did it because i was always hearing about braided cables for speaker wire rejecting a greater amount of RF. i don't...

Re: Should I learn ProTools?
i don't think you can use protools with any non-digidesign soundcards. maybe the LE version but i believe TDM is a dedicated design. that's how they rig it up for no latency. it's also more reliable not having to worry about inter-compatability. that's their downfall but also their strong point. i d...

Re: HELP ME SPEND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS
for about 250 or so you could buy a couple of jensen transformers off their web site, buy a couple cases and switches, and build yourself a nice stereo pair of direct injection boxes. that way you can track bass and keys at home very well and maybe save yourself some studio time. just one option of ...

i believe that this is the current drool factory device in the location sound world. it always helps to look at the best so that you know where the technology is. but with a $18,000 price tag it's a little far fetched unless it's your way of life. http://www.locationsound.com/ls/images/items/cantarx...

Re: weird TEAC power cables
i think i've seen those same ones on old 80's keyboards. maybe you could rip open the case and wire it to a connector of your own choice. maybe even just replace the wire with a sacraficed extension cord sauldered directly to the power supply. make sure you put a nice rubber gromet around the old co...

Re: Power Conditioners
i heard that some of the pricey ones also have ground filters which i have found to be well worth the money. if you are looking for one of those though you can get them cheaper without being rack mountable. isobar for instance has both.
