Re: Mpls- let's get this meeting set

Maybe planning the boat ride should be the "agenda item" for the Wed get together

Re: gear and minimalism

I personally like the "Grand Ol Opry" approach of a single omni, and the soloist step up to the mic.

When Steve Earle played with the Del McCoury Band, I think it was the best live sound I've ever heard.

Runner up: Jonathan Richman playing through his own coffeehouse PA at First Ave in Minneapolis.

Re: Sans Amp for Bass?

Kinda funny, but the Sans Amp Bass Driver DI to me sounds better for regular clean guitars than the original SansAmp. Just add your favorite distortion/overdrive box if you need dirt.

Mpls- let's get this meeting set

I've known a couple of friends who organized a standing date for get togethers. Obviously, they're not considered mandatory, but it's a reliable way for at least a few people to get together. Two examples: "Third Thursday" (artist friends on the North Shore) and every Thursday night (my neighbor fri...

Re: Yo La Tengo Reverb/Processors

YLT was written up in the most current issue in Guitar Player, and he does have the Line6 stompboxes (I believe the distortion and modulation).

Re: paul simon's "graceland"

Probably the funniest album review headline of all time. LA Weekly's review of Paul Simon's Brazilian album: "Slay That Funky Music White Boy"

Plenty of people did respectable interpretations of world music. But what does Al have to do with Ladysmith Black Mambazo?

Re: FENDER HOT ROD DEVILLE

I would experiment with the tubes. Most of the "Hot Rod" series have 2 12AX7 preamp tubes, but many players swap them out for lower gain tubes (e.g. 12AT7, 12AU7, 5751s, etc.) The preamp distortion can be pretty buzzy, and scaling back on the preamp tubes seem to warm up the overdrive sound quite a ...

Can I add another one? Please? Please?

Matthew Sweet / Richard Lloyd- Sick of Myself (from 100% Fun). Best pure pop rock intro, with major compression to boot. Sweet.

Re: Washburn D10 acoustic?

My favorite sub $400 acoustic is the Seagull. http://www.seagullguitars.com/intro.htm If you see any "Simon and Patrick" guitars, that's basically the budget version of the Seagull, which is still pretty playable. Most famous use of Seagulls: Kim Deal playing a Seagull through a Marshall for the Bre...

Re: Temple of Sound

Although this book has some fun anecdotes for studio setups, I took this book to be more of a cultural history than a geek book. Lord knows there are plenty of the geek books, and there's always this bboard too. It's healthy to take a step out of the basement or garage, see what's going around, and ...
