I have a ProCo snake (16x4) that has come in very handy for me. Supposedly stepped up quality wire, but I'm not sure I'm noticing a major difference.

It does help with work flow, and great for a cleaner mic cord layout around a drum kit.

Now that we got you thinking back to standard hardware... ... reading between the lines of your original post- are you really looking for compressors instead of preamps? (You said you were generally happy with your preamps, and you liked the potential of compressor offerings in the Liquid Channel) T...

Multiple pairs into multiple channels work well. If you've got the inputs, track as many as you can. I've had good results with an ORTF pair, I've even had a single Rode NT1 mono as a backup that turned out great. Spaced omni (3') seems to work well too. If there's one channel/mic I'd try to get the...

Recovering from a bad back and consecutive nights out seeing music (lead singer of legendary garage band the Monks, and the 7th annual reenactment of the movie The Last Waltz). It's an embarrasment of riches here in (no so frosty this year) MN.

More importantly, what'd you get from Santa? (For me, repairs of all sorts. My bass, one of my guitars (both of them: setup, new pots, new jack), a garage door spring, a thermocouple in my water heater. Oh, and a new microwave to replace a dodgy old one). Strange list, but nice to take care of a bun...

Another alternative is the A&H ZED R16- and you get a mixing board to boot!

(Converters are pretty nice quality, and you just need a Firewire connection)

LCD / flat screen TV as a monitor

I just installed a cheap 32" LCD 720p HDTV as a monitor. On the wall. For less than $300. For less than a new 20" flat screen monitor. Holy crap. It's nice to be able to see the waveforms. Sorry if this is old hat for everyone- but it's nice to upgrade to at least the right decade, and the price poi...
