So long as your dynamics are reasonably controlled with compressors, then I usually find I don't need to ride the faders much, if at all. As a general rule, I only ever do anything in the studio if it *needs* to be done. I'm a big believer in "less is more" and not overcomplicating things, or doing ...

Yeah that's what I personally prefer as well. Keeps everything as real as possible. But sometimes you get really difficult clients/jobs and have to do the big editing thing.... a necessary evil these days I guess....

compressors?
What about compressor choice.....?
Some like the dbx 160, but I generally find it to be too obvious with its hard knee.
On the other hand the over-easy dbx units (eg. 165) are great and smooth.
But an 1176 (or similar fet clones) is probably my favorite overall bass comp.
Thoughts?
