Re: Fabric for bass traps/absorbers
Don't know if you're still looking, but I bought some fabric from GIK Acoustics. It's $10/yard instead of $17/yd for the Guilford. It is also fire-rated. https://www.gikacoustics.com/product/st ... -the-yard/

Re: Going for it
If you want to save an input, try miking the snare from the side! It emphasizes the sound of the shell but still picks up the snares pretty well. The attack from the head will still be in your overheads, anyway. Then, you can put that extra mic somewhere else (center of the kit above the kick is gr...

Re: Going for it
There are times that I've set up a dummy guide vocal mic just to be able to keep that sound if I dump the vocal. good idea. I may setup 2 scratch vocal mics in the future -- one for vocals and one for "bleed". I've had times where the live vocal was good, but the singer wanted to punch in a single ...

Bullet heater might help, and add a element of danger to get the band psyched.![]()

Re: Going for it
These replies are very helpful. Thanks, all of you. David, the room I want to use is a 100-seat auditorium in our community center. I'd likely set up on the stage, where ceilings are pretty high and there's a lot of space. I could probably get the band set up in a line that way, as you suggest. As s...

Re: Going for it
Thanks to both of you. I hear you about bottom of the snare. Seems like one a lot of people skip. And I definitely wouldn't do just a sub kick mic, it's just something I would try if I had the inputs. (I think I'm going to run out of free inputs before I run out of mics. I had debated buying a used ...

Going for it
Ok - apologies for a seriously newb post: I have mostly recorded myself for years. Now, I'm going to help my friends record an EP. We're all dads going nuts in a pandemic, and we have no budget, but it feels right to try it. They are a three-piece (drums, guitar, and bass-vocals), with a sound somew...

Re: XLR input output & wire guage
I am not an expert, but it seems like you'd have lower resistance with a heavier gauge wire, right? I'm gonna guess that over that short a distance it doesn't matter much.
Very curious for more informed answers, though.

2. Just built one of these https://buildyourownclone.com/products/silver-pony-2 for that Klon sound. So far it's great!

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
My birthday present to myself was a used lunchbox and two DIYRE CP5 kits. (I built a Hamptone JFET years ago and it's still the nicest thing I own. I wanted to try some fun DIY stuff again.) The DIYRE kits are just unbelievably well-documented and organized. A real joy to put together. And the sound...

Re: What should I do with this Bassman?
UPDATE: I am lazy, but finally wired the speakers correctly and... Ta-DA! it sounds better! I feel like it's slightly louder but not dramatically so. I think it's also a bit more open sounding, but I haven't cranked it up too high yet. (Neighbors....) So, two questions: 1. If I were to connect only ...

Re: What should I do with this Bassman?
Thanks, folks. I measured the cab with a multimeter and it read just shy of 32 Ohms. (I don't have a true impedance tester, this was just DC resistance.) The individual speakers (disconnected from the cab) read around 8 Ohms. To complicate things, a guy from Eminence wrote me back to say that bass f...

Used MIM Precision Bass w/ Duncan QPs. My first bass, and I think I'm in love.
