Re: How to structure a multi-part session
Very helpful, Nick. When you say "additional tracks", do you mean you're adding some compression/eq to kick and snare, or setting up a drum bus?

Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?
This thread is going to finally get me off my ass to build my two Lola kits. (Although maybe should be Coppers?) I have only used my JFET Hamptone, not the tube version, but I LOVE it. Some friends of mine are recording their fourth or fifth record. My Hamptone will have been the stick-it-on-the-mos...

Re: How to structure a multi-part session
Let me clarify: someone else's space is the band's practice space. So it doesn't come with a major price tag.

How to structure a multi-part session
If you have a session that will occur on multiple, non-consecutive days*, what's your favorite way to work? 1. Try to get a lot of the basic tracks done on Day 1, then overdubs and vocals at different times? 2. Record one song at a time, moving from full band takes to overdubs, vocals, etc.? One adv...

Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?
If I could wave a magic wand and clone my Hamptone JFET, I would do it many times over. I’m also very happy with the DIYRE pres I built. Lots of clean gain. But what Nick said is why I keep hoping to find a decent small console: for the occasions when I record a whole band, I’d love to just have mos...

Re: Thoughts on the ZED-428
Ok, dumb follow up question: I’ve never really understood what makes something a “live board” other than form factor, or on board effects or something. How do you define that?

Thoughts on the ZED-428
Hey folks - I'm in the middle of rebuilding my recording/mixing space. It will be my office for my day job as well, but I'd like to set it up to be able to mix both music of my own and some of the videos I finish in-house. I have always responded better to buttons and knobs than messing with my DAW,...

Re: FS: Northeast -- Tascam 388
Bump - if you are interested in a 388 and within an hour or two of Maine, make me an offer. All I'm getting on Reverb is people attempting the cashier's check scam. (Lately I just reply to them with a link to the Wiki description of the scam and they disappear...) Anyway. This thing deserves to be u...

Re: FS: Northeast -- Tascam 388
Yeah, sounds right to me. This thing is working and it needs a good home; I don't want to be responsible for breaking it!

Re: FS: Northeast -- Tascam 388
Someone interested in this machine is trying to convince me to figure out the cost to ship it... Am I right that that's just not worth it at all? I have no experience building a crate for something like this...

SOLD: Northeast -- Tascam 388
Finally getting rid of my old Tascam 388. It's working great (recently replaced a fuse, but that's it for issues.) I'm just not using it and need the money. I'll throw in three brand new reels of RTM tape, the wired remote control, the manual, and some cleaning supplies. I'm in Maine, and I don't wa...

Re: One final ride for the 388
Ah, my kingdom for a control room! I’ll likely be on phones in the same room. (I’m really bad at judging the sound of mics that way so I always have to record and play sections back to see how it sounds.) There’s a chance I can use a decent size house that is not rented, in which case I’m thinking I...

Re: One final ride for the 388
Helpful, thanks! If it's set up for 457, will I need to re-calibrate for LPR35? (Showing my tape ignorance here, I know.)
