Re: The meaning behind your band/name

In another life-time I started a little band in Ohio called Karmalade. It (the name) was nothing more than a mix of karma & marmalade, with a dash of psychedelic swirly-ness. Still kind of like that name... In addition to Karmalade, I have come up with a gajillion more ridiculous-sounding band names...

Re: Internships

Did you happen to look at page 2 of this forum? There's a post for interns at SF SOUNDWORKS. Also, Mix magazine puts out an issue every so often that lists, state by state, schools and recording studios. Don't remember when the last issue was. There's a bunch of studios in and around San Francisco. ...

Re: What can't tracktion do that PT or DP can do?

Two more questions from someone who is most definitely going to buy Traktion when Version 2 comes out: 1) How easy or difficult is it to convert Traktion session files into, say, Pro Tools session files? I only ask because it's likely that at some point down the line someone is going to want to take...

Re: School recommendations in San Francisco area

I'm interested to see if anyone around here has any recommendations for a good recording school around here (entire bay area). Any GOOD experiences? Any BAD experiences? Dear Mr. Mayfield: Listen well, for what I am about to tell you may one day save your life. Okay, actually it probably won't save...

Re: Need Advice About Laptops (Mac vs PC)

A.L. and Tim (and everyone else who's posted to this thread), I'm not going to bother including a big quote box with all of your suggestions -- I just want to say THANKS for taking the time to give me some damn fine advice. It's all been duly noted and should help out immensely!

Peace,
Matt

Re: Need Advice About Laptops (Mac vs PC)

Damn guys, THANK YOU for all your input! As usual, I have a butt load of more questions for you, but as I am home alone (actually at my parents') with my 7 month old son -- that ain't gonna happen! Yet... I guess for now I'll say that I'm leaning toward a mac (mostly for the simple fact that it's wh...

Need Advice About Laptops (Mac vs PC)

Hey all, I'm putting together my own little DAW based home studio and want to have the flexibility to also do some location recording. Thus I'm in the market for my first laptop. I've always been a Mac user, so my first inclination was just to shop around ebay for a used powerbook -- but now I'm won...

Re: Career Advice (what should I do...?)

Hey Guys -- thanks for all your input! It's truly appreciated... To ToddF: How do you know you really want to be an engineer? Have you done it already. Have you interned or worked at a studio for hours on end to see what is really like? What I didn't include in my post is that I went through the 13 ...

Career Advice (what should I do...?)

Okay...after chickening out numerous times, I'm finally commiting to putting up this post to see what you all think. Please be gentle... Here's my situation: I REALLY want to become a music recording engineer. More than anything else in this life. However, I came to this realization somewhat late in...
