Those are 6 of the 8 most populous states, so those numbers are not surprising. It's not that Michigan is pirating more than any other state. (at least you can't say that based on that article, which seems to be pretty sloppy reporting)

Read a few of the comments on the article to get the idea.

Thanks for sharing Anthony, I'm sorry that you've lost your friend and mentor. I didn't know Tal, just some of his work, and happened upon his obit on Wikipedia which is why I posted this. I'm glad you came forth and helped frame this a little, no a lot, better. This is a fairly small community we h...

Ok, all this talk about Metallica got me to netflix "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica". When James is cutting vocals, am I crazy or is that tape machine they keep cutting to 16 track half inch? I kept thinking it must be 1" but it looked too thin! It was likely a Sony PCM-3324 or 3348. Th...

RIP Roger Nichols

It would appear that after his Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis from last year, Roger Nichols has succumbed to the disease.

Pianist Don Grusin tweeted about this yesterday.

It's not my money, so no budget required ;-)

Seriously though, thanks, that may fit the bill (and I'm bummed that I couldn't remember that interface, it's an obvious one)

Laptop (USB or FW) interface with 2 or 4 AES outs.

I've UTFSF and poked around the usual seller websites, but I haven't found this particular product that a friend is looking for:

A USB or Firewire interface that has 2 to 4 AES outs on any kind of connector (XLR, DB-25, phoenix, etc.) Anything additional is just frosting on the cake.

Any ideas?

RIP Tal Herzberg

http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-4053983,00.html The original article is in Hebrew but says that the 40 year old producer died from a "serious illness". Too young (says this 40 year old), way too young. Tal wrote the DAW World column in the recently defunct EQ Magazine, as well as for other m...

So I'm thinking that this Detroit/SE Michigan get together can be a one day thing, with maybe a show at a local club in the evening. Do any of these dates have any conflicts that I'm not thinking of (other conferences, etc.?): 8/22 (though, that might be cutting it close) 8/29 9/26 10/3 (A week befo...

You'll just be adding 8 empty bits to the end of the digital word and you'll have 24 bit files with only 16 bits of real resolution. They won't sound any worse, but they also won't sound any better.

Leave the low end to your cutting engineer. It is a myth that it's standard practice to mono the low end on vinyl. It's done, but not always. I've never monoed my bass before sending it off to be cut to lacquers and the cutting guys never complained. I should have a lathe in the next several months ...
