Re: i'd love to read a TapeOp interview with...

I worked for Walter for 3 awesome years. Forget an interview, write a book. That man is an original - the entire experience is overwhelming. So much information, so many stories, so many jokes, such a WIERD life. The man has, in his life: studied metallurgy built tubas played in the Philadelphia Phi...

Far Side Cafe on Mass Ave/end of Newbury st. has some pretty great food and a better-than-most soundtrack. Best odd pedal store:Mr. Music in Allston.

Re: tom waits and graham coxon questions...anybody...anybody

Bone machine involved many strange, beautiful techniques. Like the fact that Waits, when checking out the studio, walked in EVERY room in the joint. Eventually decided on the broom closet to record vocals in. I friggin love that.

Re: How do you achive average listener perspective?

A glass of whisky and a hummer usually distract me enough to where I can listen "casually". But that's expensive.

How about just leaving the room?

Re: Possible new drum kit mic'ing technique

I tried to compress my girlfriend's low end once. I was shooting for a 20:1 ratio - but I couldn't shake the sensation that it was an effect. She didn't go for it - she preferred delay on her low end. The more I tried to compress, the more high-end distortion I got. I don't even want to talk about t...

Re: The Sherlock: A Level-Loc clone for $69

Wait a second - mic level? Isn't that like line level? Then what the hell is speaker level? Isn't that when both speakers are level? Why am I using preamps? I need to trim the fat and just start using AMPS! Pre shmee! I'm going to bypass tape and plug straight into the ear! And another thing - why w...

Re: question about Glyn Johns drum micing method

This is my favorite method of all time - I never liked close miking anyway. Btw, it sounds excellent with ribbon mics - specifically coles or some nice 77s, but even the oktavas sound great on this. For more spice, I prefer class A pres on this - since the circuits open the whole time, the transient...
