388 Dumping to Digital? What do I need?
Hi Folks, I'm using a Tascam 388 and I want to dump to digital to mix and do vocal overdubs and maybe some other overdubs. I've been told that for my purposes GarageBand is probably sufficient so I'd like to start there. I need recommendations on a thing that will transfer from the 8 line outs on th...

Re: Pre-Amps Rec's for Instruments and Mics?
Hard to know what you consider "reasonably priced" but for warm I love the UA solo 610 - a GREAT DI for bass, guitars, keys and a very rich and velvety pre for mics. I use this a lot on vocals too. Can be found used for $500 - $600 used. BTW power supply for Golden Age is cheap: https://www.bhphoto...

Pre-Amps Rec's for Instruments and Mics?
Looking for a good, reasonably priced, all-purpose pre-amp that will add some warmth to direct guitars, and other instruments as well as vocals. Will need XLR and 1/4" inputs I plan to use it with analog gear, like a tascam 388, as well as digital, as I like to dump the analog to digital and do some...

Tascam 388 - WEIRD buzzing issue
I have a Tascam 388 and I'm experiencing some very odd buzzing coming from Track 5 under very specific circumstances. Let me explain why it's so bizarre. The buzzing happens only when the track is switched to "Mic" Input. If you connect a mic straight to the input, there is no buzzing what so ever. ...

Tascam 388 pan pot issue
Hello! Tascam 388 track 5 pan pot sometimes goes out when you pan right of center. First time about 6 months ago. I pulled the back cover off and shot some cdc qd in there and it cleared up for months and a TON of use. It Started again the other day and I did the same. It worked but the next day it ...

Re: Reverb for Drums (Analog Tascam 388)
Hey folks I got an Alesis Wedge and I am running it through the effects send return of my 388. I’m getting lots of weird digital sounds hovering around above the effects especially when I adjust it down to a drier signal. Also When I totally dry out the signal or bypass it the dry tracks have a weir...

Reverb for Drums (Analog Tascam 388)
Hey Folks, I'm using a Tascam 388 with a very basic, cheap mic set up. Five mics: Shure 52a kick mic, SM57 on snare, two SM57's in the "Glyn Johns" pattern for the cymbals and toms (panned L/R); and finally, for the reverb mic, a MXL v67 Condenser placed high above the kit. Those 5 tracks get bounce...

Re: Tascam 388 Stereo Inputs - Drum Machine
ps - try FunkBox for IOS if you haven’t already. It’s my go to virtual drum machine. Looks like the interface of the DM1 is quite similar. FunkBox has samples of all the classic machines and sounds great. Super easy to use and very tweakable. I just run the headphone out of my iPad to a mono line i...

Re: Tascam 388 Stereo Inputs - Drum Machine
Thanks for the advice and tips I like the DM1 but there’s things it def can’t do. You can’t tweak Individual drum sounds much. Pitching down kills the fidelity and there’s only one tom. I was working on a song with kind of a lush percussive arrangement so I wanted to pan the open hats, cymbal, bells...

Tascam 388 Stereo Inputs - Drum Machine
Hi Folks, I'm using a software based drum machine, DM1 for iphone and I want to run it stereo to my Tascam 388. The headphone out from my phone is of course a stereo headphone jack. How do I get a stereo mix to the 388? Can I simply use one balanced cable that goes 1/8" to 1/4"? Do I have to split i...

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks
Hey there folks, I tried it out and what I found was it is possible to print to tracks with effects, but not exactly like I thought/hoped. To go over the steps I followed: 1. Record dry drum tracks 1-5 2. Run effects send to reverb unit. Send dry tracks 1-5 to reverb unit. 3. Send reverb unit to tra...

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks
If that doesn’t work, then here’s another way that should work: Using the FX/aux sends, but return them down to the line inputs of one or two tracks, and buss THOSE tracks with the other tracks you want to submix down to two tracks. If you need two FX returns you’ll only be able to do 1-4 instead o...

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks
You’ll just have to try it and experiment for the right hookup scenario, but you absolutely can add effects when you bounce...ive done this before...layering and reprocessing effects over and over... I think you just want to add your effects to the 7-8 channels and it should work, just like if you ...

Mixing Down to Macbook Air - NO AUDIO INPUT?!
Hi Folks, I received a new 13" Macbook Air as a gift for x-mas. I took it to my studio to mix some stuff down from the tascam 388, and plugged the RCA to 1/8" cable into the headphone jack, went to "sound" to toggle from output to input, and.... no drop down? Apparently, apple removed the ability to...
