Hi Tom, the only local(ish, to you) one i would wholeheartedly recommend is David Brewis,. he's based in Sunderland (Tyneside). He mastered Field Music, The Week That Was, School of Language, B>E>A>K, a few other things. He doesn't really do it as a job, but if he likes something, he can be persuade...

in a shocking (for Deerhoof) change of affairs, they recorded it at Tiny Telephone in san francisco, and mastered it somewhere else. i think they did the traditional months of editing at home on PT, though...

Leonard Cohen, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson all made their debut albums when they were in their 30s.

James Mercer (The Shins) was in his 30's when they released their 1st album, as was Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand.

age ain't nothing but a number.

"No.14" by Love (B side of "7+7 Is"). there's a tambourine in the right speaker- that REALLY LOUD sixties tambourine. it keeps sliding in and out of time in a really comical way. it's also oddly cool, and adds a certain something...

just that, really. i had it serviced a while back, worked fine, and recently moved studios; plugged it back in, and it's got a loud hum on both channels.

anyone any idea what it could be? a tube, maybe- but on both channels?

Plus it just sounds great. encore... i got a silverface princeton reverb for xmas when i was 14- my first prop...
