French soundtrack music

So I just finished "The Triplets of Belleville" again, and last week watched Jacque Tati's "Mon Oncle", and am having a hankering for some of that cool, melancholy accordian-based stuff heard in both; problem is, I got no idea who to look for. Anyone have suggestions for artists? Thanks.

Kevin I would agree with Ben that isolation is your 1st concern, but would avoid the Celotex simply for the fact that it isn't massive enough to help isolate; mass is the most effective isolator, and drywall is the cheapest way to add mass. The limiting factor becomes the weight-bearing capacity of ...

I just saw a great old one by Jacques Tati called "Mon Oncle", and the music was great; not sure of the composer, but if anyone knows who it is (and where to point me toward anything similar), I'd appreciate it. The film is a kick, too.

Craig Schumacher and Chris Schultz engineered most of it at the Wavelab in Tuscon. There's a review here;

but not much technical info.

Can you put them at the wall/ceiling corner instead of the inside corner of the two walls? Should work there, too.

Chuck Try and get a symetrical set-up for your monitors, at least side to side. One rule of thumb I've heard is to place yourself and your speakers at the thirds or fifths positions relative to any dimension, and not to setup at the quarters or halves. For an example, if your room was 100 ft. long (...

Chuck Be sure to leave some airspace between the bottom of the roof sheathing and your insulation, otherwise the heat buildup will seriously sorten the life of your shingles. They make styrofoam baffles you can staple up to do this. There isn't much cheaper material to use than drywall, though it'd ...

Are you familiar with Wonderboard? It's a cement based tile backing board that comes in sheet form (usually 3'x5'x1/2" thick). Maybe you could use it, depending on the application.

Jay Looks like a cool space to work with; the things I'd suggest with a budget as tight as you have are these: -try to make the space work without angled walls and ceiling to maximize space. You should be able to tame flutter echo problems with acoustic treatments like fabric-wrapped 703. Ethan Wine...

Harry I would agree with MPE and blunder; hanging a door out of plumb (the construction term for straight up and down), esp. a slider, is not likely to net you much except for headaches in the working action of the door. I'd go for dead vertical, and find other ways to avoid reflections from the gla...

Fine looking project there, Mark. It really starts to feel real once the drywall starts to go in, eh? Keep the updates coming.

Kaku Is the ceiling you're talking about already finished w/ drywall or plaster? If so, I'd suggest this, from top to bottom. finished ceiling 2x4's on edge, so they hang down 3 1/2" 1 1/2" airspace 703, cut tight to wedge between 2x frame and flush w/ bottom of 2x's 1/4" to 1/2" plywood (thicker pl...

You can see the interlude music on the page for each show. I was driving last night and heard something from Tucker Martine's Mylab record, and sure enough, it's on the archive list for the show.
