Ops

How about 4 pm this Saturday, 31 Dec. at Three Dogs? George and I were the whole group last time; maybe we can get a few more this time around. If that time is totally unworkable, maybe someone else can pick one.

Anyone out that way? I may be headed there for work soon, lemme know about the cool stuff if you're there.

Jeremy's got a point, but I still think the extra mass of the solid-core wood will give more isolation. Like the steel, which is usually made up of 2 20 ga. (or so) steel skins over foam, the "solid core" wood doors are usually 2 1/8" veneered layers of ply over a particle board core. If the steel w...

It does sound kinda Georgy, don't it? Wouldn't be the first time I got the details wrong.

That riff in "Badge"...

You know, that 2-3 bar bridge/turnaround thingy thru the Leslie before the vocal comes back in; for me, that secures Clapton's place in rock guitar history by itself.

Not Crap.

Anyone?

Another vote for Andrew Bird, though the Long Winters' The Commander Thinks Aloud might be the best song. Chris Whitley's Soft Dangerous Shore (RIP), Eno's Another Day on Earth, and Howe Gelb's Arizona Amp and Alternator should get a mention, too.

The original math done on these by Mannfred Schroeder does not include any absorption, though RPG (and others) have incorporated absorption, too. Chapters 13 and 14 in Everest's Master Handbook of Acoustics have the details, and more math than I can handle after a long day of work.

weatherbox might have the best solution, I think. 500w halogen worklights from the hardware store throw off lots of heat close to them, and don't make noise, though the delicate candlelit ambiance will get blasted to hell. They don't cost much, either. Hell, a couple of Par 64 cans per player from t...

tret For your budget, doing enough to isolate for monitoring will be next to impossible, but your "monitoring tent" idea is probably best; try and set the panels (maybe stick the Sonex to some particle board 4x8's with a simple triangle brace to hold them up) up symetrically around you. If you can s...

goog Sliders are hard to get a good seal; can you frame in 1/2 the opening and just use a single door? Cheapest way to go is to cut in your own (thick) glass in a solid core slab, then add trim to make a frame for it. You're right, standard 1" insulated works OK for keeping out the cold, but not the...

Ryan Are you sold on steel? Solid core wood is more massive for the $, cos most inexpensive steel solid-cores have foam in the middle. Best bang for the buck is a prehung 1 3/4" exterior solid core wood; it has some seal/weatherstrip already installed, and you just need to beef up the threshold or a...
