Re: Recording HD24 tracks paralell to a DAW
KSlite; Thanks for the good advice. Some searching definitely confirms that people are reporting that experience. I'm OK with 48k. I'm going to do 192 for smaller projects, but anything that uses my ADAT is going to require 48k. Such is life. Fortunately, I have no further need of 44.1 for any reaso...

Re: Recording HD24 tracks paralell to a DAW
Numberthirty: Managing all of my tracking on the HD24 would be a pain for a few different reasons. Transferring tracks is a tedious process involving removing the ancient hard drive caddy from the machine and then connecting it to the "Alesis FirePort" Firewire adapter box. You can transfer tracks v...

Recording HD24 tracks paralell to a DAW
I'm getting ready to start using my Alesis HD24 as 8 channels for a Focusrite 18i20, which I will be using under Reaper. I'd like to track on the 16 remaining ADAT channels at the same time and import those tracks to the DAW . Can the imported waves line up at 00:00:00 sample-accurate without tweak...

A polite linux request
Is it possible to start giving more attention to Ubuntu/Linux recording? Linux recording will mostly continue to be a niche thing if it doesn't get a little more public attention from the professional community. The more people continue to be unnecessarily intimidated by it, the less the platform c...

Also: That last post was * absolutely not * intended to sound like some sort of indictment regarding responses to my explosion. In other news, I went to Micro Center, and the first person I talked to in the DIY PC department actually knew a lot about DAWs. I ended up buying a Corsair RM750 for the P...

First off, some apologies. 1. My behavior was absolutely in the wrong. I can make excuses relating to personal triggers, but they're still pretty useless. And, really, in the end, they don't matter. 2. Yes. There was no need for Ad-Hominem attacks, although I feel that there are situations in life w...

Talk to the Google (puts up hand).
"Would anyone like to share some PC PSU experience or advise?" Was that really worth your time? I've spent time Googling it. It's about as funny as saying "buy a Mac". I suppose I could go listen to the sounds of case fans on Google for 6 hours. (Where is that, "Google DAW Review Sounds"? Maybe they...

Quiet PSU on a budget? Suggested wattage?
Greetings! Would anyone like to share some PC PSU experience or advise? I'm putting together a new DAW, and I'm looking for advise on people's experiences with current PSU options. I can't find a good way to tell what's quiet and what isn't. I'd rather not guess blindly. I recently salvaged a pretty...

PT LE 8 and vanishing waves
Good day.
I'm baffled, here. I'm using PT 8.1, and I cannot tweak it such that regions won't disappear when I drag them.
This does not aid in lining things up.
I just switched up from LE 7. I'm assuming this is user error.

Alright, last pass got it. No idea what changed. I went back and tried it again a few hours ago, and it cleaned up as I was listening to it. I kept rolling anyway, just in case. By the time I got to the end of the tape, it was OK. So, I flipped the reels and recorded them all again backwards. The fi...

Alright. Well, no point crying now. The damage is done. I read a few articles, one of which said the flipping was neccesary. When I did my own a few years ago, I'd flip them every hour or so. It seemed to work then. I apparently misunderstood Mr. Ciletti's article. I wondered why the heck you'd spoo...

Tape baking issue- is this the right forum? Hrm.
Howdy! I'm working on digitizing an 8-track 1/2" reel for someone. It was recorded in 1992 ion Ampex 406. I've baked quite a few tapes now, with quite a bit of success. This time, it just isn't working. I cannot stop the tape from peeling and shedding, and it's BAD. He knew this could be an issue, an...
