So you say you have a small slingerland kit. Is it a 60s? Is it safe to assume that it is a 3 piece? 18, 14, 12? 20, 16, 13? Possibly a 4 piece? 20, 16, 12, 12? Knowing that will help with what I can tell you about tuning those specific drums. One thing about tuning to pitches I can add is taht you ...

MAKE ME AN OFFER. YES it's still for sale after all this time. I know these should be worth somewhere around just over 2200 in great shape, but they aren't perfect as the pics show and the 8, 10, 12, 14 and 22 have some sunlight yellowing on them that just doesn't show in the pics really. So it's ti...

Thanks for the link!

Okay, so I need to make thick 703 panels (4"?) to hang behind my monitors? It's not totally clear in the article what to do.

Treatment behind monitors

My room is on the small side, about 14x15 or so. I have some 1" 703 panels randomly placed around the room and LENRDS most of the way around the ceiling and in most of the places where the 4 walls meet. My room sounds pretty damn good actually, though I could get a little more clarity in the low end...

Oh, and I forgot to add that I have in the past done different things to get the snare drum not to ring so much, but when I use Recorderman, I can't hear the sometimes annoying snare ring really at all and I am not muting anything. No moongel, tape, nothing.

So the string distance should be the same as the two-sticks. I'm guessing that the string just helps by eliminating the need to bend down. I'll have to try this method. One other question - does the distance NEED to be only two-sticks? Of could you make the distance larger? (for bigger drummers, or...

Reflections can definitely impart an out-of-phase type sound, though it sounds like you've got your surfaces fairly well treated. Have you checked your mic cables? One could be wired out of phase? Does everything sound kosher once you flip polarity on one of the overheads? Yeah, it sounds pretty ok...

alright here it is! the results are in! this actually turned into and ABC comparison because Vloud is bullshit, i could still see some dynamic range in the first file i got back from them and we all know that's just a bunch of malarkey. so here's the original file which was converted to a 320kbps m...

Shouldn't you listen before recording, or if working alone check and if something needs to bew flipped, do it at the mic pre and track the rest of the tunes that way? Yeah, and I am working alone. I totally agree, and that's exactly what I'm doing: recording a few bars and then listening back. I am...

Hi LeedyGuy, Russian Oktavas are phase flipped. WTF?! Soooooo I should always record my 012s phase reversed so that I have a fighting chance of being in phase with my kick and snare mic? Even so, it doesn't make a difference if they are BOTH phase flipped when trying to get them in phase with eacho...

That would be wild if my mics or cables are out of phase. Signal chain: 2 Russian Oktavas with Red capsules->monster pro100->2 solo 610 (phase set to in) -> balanced XLR to 1/4" -> Neutrik patchbay -> balanced patch cables -> MOTU 828 I see this as a pretty typical setup and I have never had my mics...

Damn! looks like i have done it all in 16 bit.

So if I start at 24 bit now and overdub on some projects, does that make a mess of things?
