hmmm...the problem with all of this speculation is I never know if someone if messing with me. I have the book and enjoyed it, started following the continued adventures online, then nothing happened and I lost track. Seems like the continued story has disappeared. So, this movie thing is a reality?...

I like the idea of a limited run of digipacks. They do look sweet. In my experience (years of selling cds and records in a retail environment), the jewel case vs digipack is never a deal killer. You get the added bonus of someone taking a second look maybe, or you lure someone into buying sooner due...

I've had similar issues come up quite frequently. Singer/songwriters tend to be more comfortable playing and singing at the same time. In fact, some can't do one without the other! I've done an XY coincident pair with a couple of condensers with some luck. 90˚ (or so) but up and down instead of...

I seem to remember Robert Schneider from Apples in Stereo talking about running his mixes through his Neve pres or som'n. Like to the point of overdrive...anyone remember? Is it in the book? I've had the same experience with violin the lowpass. There's a lot of things that can handle quite a bit of ...

Free pianos can suck badly. I got one for cheap...then I got a piano mover to move it≈$100. Then I got someone to come over to tune it and it wouldn't hold a tune. The wood that holds the tuning pins can dry out and when it does the strings won't tune....ever again. The piano tuning guy told m...

Do your best to not be disrespectful or offensive. The people you are working with may not share your same sense of humor. Keep the chatter down in the control room while work is being done. Take it to the lounge or outside. Be aware of all the very expensive equipment around you. I've learned all t...

Mixerman is a composite. There's a little bit of mixerman in all of us. And a little bit of all of us in mixerman. But not the kind of little bit that gets you royalty checks, do don't ask. Yeah...sort of like even "mixerman" is not actually mixerman. So no one is really mixerman probably. However,...

i tracked a drummer who was very fat and lacked stamina. he would play through the song until he got tired, take a break, then punch. it was FANTASTIC!!!1 Ha...that's pretty funny. I recorded a song once where the guitarist was teaching the drummer each section as we went. Learn a section, then rec...

there are pro tools files of dark side in quad running around out there. There's about a million ways you could make it work and still sound right. WOW! I wonder if they're from original vinyl or from original masters. It also seems to be available in DVD-Audio. Alan Parsons Quad mix! Sweet. Gotta ...

...I'd love to own one someday - wonder how many are left out there... This is approximately the 515th Novachord from a total of 1069 units made. Date of manufacture for this Novachord is roughly march 1940. Can't be many, eh? Aside from the junked ones, it sounds like they're pretty easy to fry if...

Sounds like he knows his market and budgeted accordingly. If he provides stellar service with his minimal gear, I can certainly see why gear isn't an issue with his clients. Someone with 30+ years of experience could probably do well with any amount of gear. I, of course, would still be temped by th...

I'll do a batch of mixes where I take care of all the stuff most bands can't even hear or don't want to hear. I dunno like compression on a kick drum or something. It's often too hard for a band to keep up with me flipping back and forth between things, and I don't want to always be explaining what ...
