Re: API Lunchbox Question

Yes I'm talking about the 312A clones. They use a Jensen xformer and the 1122 op amp. As far as op amps, I would agreee that the orig 2520s are great but I'm not the only one that feels new 2520s don't sound as good. Some prefer the 1122 as an alternative to replacing a dead old 2520 w/ a new 2520. ...

Re: API Lunchbox Question

Sorry didn't answer your lunchbox question. I can't comment on the OSA box since I only talk about what I own or have used. The BAE has a bigger supply and I would assume better than the on board API supply. I had both boxes at the same time and I do believe that the 312s sounded a little more beefy...

Re: API Lunchbox Question

Coco, the 312As have phase, pad and 48volts. BAE is very good with service so warranty is non issue. They are also less $$.
At the end of the day great gear is just that. For those who like the 512C cool. It's a great pre. To my ears not as great as the BAE 312A.
Any other comparisons?

Re: API Lunchbox Question

I would get the Brent Averill lunchbox ($499 6spc). I had the new API and returned it for the BAE. Both vintage and clone modules fit in the BAE (unlikek the API 6B I had) and the BAE is hard wired versus pcb design. I also like the fact that the pwr supply is external. As far as modules, out of the...

Re: word clock question

Set Nuendo to read either word clock or ext source. Nor sure what card you're using. If you give some more info I can help further. The Nuendo forum is a good source. If you do post make sure it's on the hardware forum. K.

Re: what mics for sibilant vocalists?

I wouldn't suggest the KSM32. Reallly prone to sibilence. I have 2 of them and never use them for vocs. They have a bump that will kill you ya with the deadly Sssss. I would stay away from condesors when recording those problem singers. De-essers are great but they don't work as well as the proper m...

Re: Bass trapping

I'm not sure how accurate your drawing is but I'd move the mixing desk up and the speakers behind and a little closer to the center position. Fisrt it will get the speakers away from the side walls (of course keep them off the front wall too). The further your speakers are away from the walls the mo...

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap

Well I know some who leave the beater on the head and some that don't. One of the best kiks I've ever heard belongs to a drummer here in Austin, Mike Hale (David Graza/ Patrice Pike). Uses a Fibes 20x16 (I believe) and does leave the beater on the head. One of the biggest and most powerful kiks. Som...

Re: in austin for the weekend

I'd try Austin Vintage guitars, The Custom Shop and Heart of Texas. All are in the same shopping plaza on South Lamar just south of Barton Spring road. Further south on Lamar next to the Saxon Pub is South Austin Music.
These are probaly the best places to find used instrs. Good luck. K.

Re: Cad E-200 wired with wrong polarity from factory?

Find someone with a phase clicker (or buy one)and find out for sure. I went without a clicker for 2yrs and I still don't know how I did it. I had gear that was pin 3 hot and have had others bring in gear that is pin 3 hot and the owners didn't know it. I've had multiple git amp setups out of phase a...

Re: OSA mic pre...too short for my API lunchbox?

I replaced my API 6B luchbox with the Averill because of the API box depth issue. I now believe API simply screwed up on whatever prod run my box came from. I recently picked up an API 512C expecting it to be too long for the Averill box (since the new API boxes were too deep for my vintage modules)...

Re: Ever go to a "big studio" and...

The eng was on the phone? His inconsideratation but your fault for letting it happen. Being too nice or bending over backwards for an eng in a situation where you are paying for the session is not the way to do business. I find the client sets the dynamics in the session. Shouldn't be the case with ...

Re: Opinions on late 60's/early 70's Traynor heads?

I grew up in Canada. During the 70's is was very expensive to buy the gear that Americans used. Traynor became very popular and the early ones sound pretty dam good. Both my git players had them. I had a 8x10 bass cab that was pretty cool. Haven't heard one in many years esp since I've lived in the ...
