Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad
That seems right - it definitely opens up my kick and snare mics.

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad
Completely floored with the Warm preamps! The 'tone' button makes all the difference - Here's a quick drum recording I did within hours of buying it: https://www.dropbox.com/home/drums-n-stuff?preview=drum-test-limited.mp3 - This is a mismatched kit: keller maple kick drum 22x14, 60's pearl mahogany...

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad
Update: offer was countered on Reverb on the Lindell - around the same time my local high end audio store (sound pure here in Durham NC) called me and gave me an amazing deal on a brand new WA-412. Still getting into the 500 game sooner than later but I think the simplicity of this guy is perfect fo...

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad
Lots of good advice here! re: Legit API - I think I disagree, the CAPI and BAE pre's I've used in the past are amazing. I think smaller companies some times make way better versions of big name pre's. Like on the Neve end of the spectrum the Avedis and Electrodyne's blow any modern Neve away IMO re:...

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad
Basically everyone has told me to go 500 heh. Ok, I'm finally convinced - likely pulling the trigger on the Lindell with the CAPI/Golden Age Modules.
The A-Designs Pacifica is (IMO) the best overhead pre ever, so those will likely be my 5th and 6th channels!

Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad
So I’ve narrowed it down to these two for my ‘classic American sounding preamps’ - I guess we can say API copies here, the reviewers online are extra careful about this. They’re basically the same idea, and price point the main difference being cinematic transformers on the BLA and Altran on the War...

Re: UAD Apollo 8 - the other 4 inputs, and other stories.
I've done a lot of research since I posted and decided to pony up for a UAD 4-710d and I'm planning to start building a 500 box - aiming for 2x Avedis MA5's, 2x A Designs P-1's, and 2 channels of yet to be decided compression. In the meantime the pre's on my 70's Sony MX-20 mixer are filling the voi...

UAD Apollo 8 - the other 4 inputs, and other stories.
Hi all! So after about 8 years of not thinking as much about recording, and just being a drummer (mainly because I was living in Brooklyn and space was impossible to find) I've found myself with a very usable space in Durham NC and bought a UAD Apollo Quad 8 for a VERY good deal. I recorded a decent...
