Re: 500 Series EQ

It's cool, I've owned a Panavise for years.

Re: Favorite Hardware Reverb Unit

I certainly like my ITB verbs. I have all the UAD Lexicon and EMT stuff. As well as their plates and the Capitol chambers. All very good. But they don't do me a lot of good when I am trying to mix using the DAW as a tape machine, bringing each track out to a mixer and mixing down on hardware. In tha...

Re: Favorite Hardware Reverb Unit

I used to have a TC PowerCore. There were a few reverb plugins on there that were very good. It's been a while so I cannot recall the name but there was one that was very rich and smooth sounding. This alone has perked my interest in TC reverbs. It seems they have just about slowed to a trickle of m...

Re: 500 Series EQ

Picked up a 553F kit from CAPI. I am curious to see what it sounds like. Yes it is a very involved build. Probably going to take me 2 weeks at the general pace I go. Misplaced my multitester during a move, so I am off to the nerd store in Gowanus. I actually need the tester just to discern the resis...

Favorite Hardware Reverb Unit

Could swear this was already a topic on here. But the only similar I can find is from over 15 years ago. I prefer to use actual spaces and microphone placement when possible. But sometimes an artificial reverb is it's own thing. What is your go to hardware reverb? What box do you use for inspiration...

Re: Original API 500 series list?

Yeah I placed an order today. They are out of the BT50 so I got the 534 in the meantime.
Figure I like the EQ points and can always use some less sophisticated EQ. Also a fraction cheaper than the BT50, and not as complicated as their 'graphic' EQs.

Re: 500 Series EQ

Wolff designed the Tonelux EQP5? That is re-assuring. I am automatically skeptical of anything with such a wide range on it's controls. Makes me think 'quantity over quality'. Like some camera lenses for example that have a staggering zoom range but are never terribly sharp. Those EQ's seem to fit t...

Re: Original API 500 series list?

Yeah I read that Wiki and the API history already. That is kind of what got me asking. If for example you go to the doepfer site they list every module they have ever made, even ones that are prototypes or are out of production. I guess I have some latent nonconformist tendencies. Buying a 500 serie...

Re: 500 Series EQ

Just a sidebar. Was distracted into checking out the SSL Xrack offerings. As I have an Xdesk (and sadly not the panda). I was wondering if the Xrack version of their EQ would have better performance on their own format. Thinking maybe it was 24v rails like a big boy console. Well after some digging ...

Original API 500 series list?

Was looking at the CAPI site the last few days, and they mention a lot of 500 series modules on there beyond the 512, 550a/b etc. I have done a few searches but cannot find a comprehensive list of API modules. such as the various EQ and preamp models that are not in production. Or which may have bee...

Re: 500 Series EQ

i'll vouch for the CAPI BT50s - i have a pair of API 550b and this CAPI (although based on the 550a) is more "tone enhancing" and thicker sounding than the API. Considering selling the API as they are worth lots of money and I find them a little "hard" sounding and maybe not totally my style... Wow...

Re: 500 Series EQ

I've done a few eurorack kits which have similar component density. On end resistors etc. I was about to order the complete kit last night, but now I'm thinking of parsing the BOM for parts I already have. My workbench has an abundance of 1% resistors and common semiconductors. If I can get a good d...

Re: UA Luna

I would have been interested in this when I was on Logic 9. Logic X fixed a lot of the timing bugs that would creep up on you when mingling MIDI and audio workflows. I don't think Luna has any MIDI? It does have 'instruments' according to the email I got from UA this morning, so maybe they have just...

Re: 500 Series EQ

yeah I gathered it was supposed to be Studerish. I've never seen or heard a Studer mixer, though they are supposed to be in high regard. But I'm not sure if that's the EQ or the pre that makes them special. Or just how they look like the Leica of mixers. The CAPI site heavily reminds me of my journe...

Re: 500 Series EQ

Gotta say I'm feeling disappointment about the Chameleon Labs 560. I can get past the ugly knobs (probably by buying some on Tayda) Bu the lack of any low mid frequencies is a head scratcher. Am I the only person who is constantly cutting in that area between 250-600? I think not. Of course I unders...
