Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?

Depends on what I am doing. I like my LA610 on basses or vocals. For guitars lately I've been using just the UAD preamp modeler for Neve or Helios flavors. I know its not going to be as fat as the real deal. But it's also without the price of the real deal. Also been diggin a Wendt location mixer/pr...

Re: Another Tascam 388 wonderer...

Before I got into DAWs I was this luddite anti digital knucklehead. Blame it on potent northern California weed and the lack of critical thinking among the musicians I hung out with. Anyway for a long time I rocked a Ramsa WR series mixer with a Tascam 80-8 1/2" open reel deck. DBX noise reduction i...

Re: What amp are folks putting behind NS-10Ms?

I have an Adcom 535MKII. It's a criminally underrated amp. I got mine for a pretty great price since it was advertised as broken, and I wanted something to try and troubleshoot. (every couple years I delude myself into thinking I am good at fixing things) Turned out it just needed a fuse! It has wor...

Re: What amp are folks putting behind NS-10Ms?

I used an Adcom 535 with the ones I had on loan for a while.
Worked great. Now it powers some Avantone cubes.
Cant believe Adcoms are still affordable used.

Vintage Synth dot com

Is it just me or is this site hacked or something?
I'm seeing PHP errors and ads are acting strange. Can't login and it's very hard to get to any particular synth page.

Re: Does the DAW interface I want exist?

I was in a similar space about a year ago. I'd run out of inputs on my interface and was getting annoyed swapping cables. Tried using a patchbay for a while. Which is a good way to save wear and tear on your interface's jacks. But it also introduces a lot more cabling and possible points of failure....

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Finally joined the Elektron Octatrack club. It's kind of an absurdly deep piece of gear you can use in a number of ways. Wish there were more how-to vids that weren't focused on just making house/jungle etc. Also picked up a MOTU M4 since my previous 8 year old portable interface no longer is suppor...

Re: is there delay plugin like a delta lab effectron?

One of the reasons the Effectron sounds different is that the way it AD converts and DA converts is different than most other digital effects. Adaptive Delta Modualation is what they called it. I'm not as up on my Nyquist stuff as I was fresh out of college and I don't have a schematic on hand, but ...

Re: UAD Spark

I installed it right when it came out. My UAD system is in storage for the time being and I'm travelling. Thanks to the UAD 'Connect" I get about 5 plugins of the 50+ I own. I really do appreciate using the 1073, 1176 etc emulations. Especially since I can go to town and slap them on every channel a...

Re: Tripp Lite LCR2400 Audibly LOUD

I got a good deal on a couple Cyberpower kind of like this. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1023703-REG/cyberpower_or1500lcdrt2u_smart_app_intelligent_lcd.html The better ones are the 2RU rack versions which run about $450 each but are absolute tanks. And weigh as much as tanks. This is what ...

Re: Can I use a Lynx Aurora LS-ADAT card as an LT-ADAT card?

Well I was hoping to score an Aurora 8 and an LS-ADAT or LT-ADAT card. But an Apogee AD16X popped up on Reverb so I grabbed that instead. No need for any cards since the AD16X has SMUX ADAT built in. I can put an interface card in there if I ever decide to set up a ProTools rig or something. But for...

Re: Tripp Lite LCR2400 Audibly LOUD

I'm going to disagree strenuously with the above posts. Tripplite has been making power products for decades. They are a solid, no snake oil company. I would not put them in the same category as Monster and other companies that primarily rely on marketing flim flam, not engineering. I've installed d...

Can I use a Lynx Aurora LS-ADAT card as an LT-ADAT card?

So I am trying to expand my input/output count. Looking at the trusty old Lynx Aurora. But everyone seems to sell them sans card. This and it seems like actual Lynx LT-ADAT cards are pretty rare on the ground, and discontinued for some reason? So my question is, Can I use a Lynx Aurora LS-ADAT card ...

I've fixed cheaper reverbs, but am a little reticent about hacking at a PCM80.

Re: How important is it to mic the bottom of a snare?

I used to be super in to it for a while. Then I realized I only liked it when I was using a Beyer 201 on the bottom. That mic just has that focus like a condenser, and the hypercardiod rejection helps clean up bleed from the rest of the kit. That said. I don't even think of bottom micing the snare u...
