I've got a pair of RS1s and they're the only headphone that I'll use to reference a mix. You can hear grass grow with these, the detail is amazing. They take a bit of getting used to as they are a bit bright.

I just did a project over at Sear Sound in studio C with their MCI/Avalon amazing frankenstein desk in studio C. We used one of Walter's M49s for vocals. We needed to do some touchups back at my place and I ran my E49 into an Avalon 2022. The sound was absolutely dead on. I punched right into the or...

I've got the RBI and use it all the time. It's a pretty great box. I find that the Sans Amp plug has its uses too.

Re: an Avalon AD2022 comes to the ghetto...

I love my ad2022. I've had great experiences with it on vocals, ac. guitar, percussion, and it has an amazing di for bass. Make sure that you play with the different impedence settings as they change the tone of the mic especially ribbons.

Enjoy it, it's a great piece.

Re: Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....

While this does seem a bit silly, keep in mind the ipod can also play aiff and wav files (in all of their 16bit/44.1k glory) in addition to compressed formats.

Re: UA LA-610

I had a chance to demo the LA610 and it's pretty sweet. In comparison to my UA2610->LA2A the LA610 was a bit more midrangy and lacked a bit of the fullness of the combo. But in all fairness, it's a fraction of the cost! Regarding eq to tape. I usually try to adjust the tone with mic choice/placement...

Re: Vintech Dual 72 or Universal Audio 2108 or something els

The 2108 is a great sounding pre. It holds its own with everything else that I've got (Neve/Avalon/Summit). Full top and bottom with punchy mids and the impedence switch is great for tonal changes. Sounds great on any type of drum, e guitar and especially a guitar for rock or anything that requires ...

While they're outside of the city (Long Island), these guys rock! They're fast and do great work. They may be able to pick up and deliver to/from the city.

It cost more than that to park your car in Manhattan :o

I suppose it all depends on your own personal definition of the word "Excellent".

Re: Studio deals?? Free studio time in exchange for points?

The way that I do spec deals is as follows: My rate divided in half up front. So if my rate is $100/hr they get it for $50. If they get a deal within 18 months they need to give me my rate times 2 less the money already paid me. So in the case above it would be an additional $150/hr. In this way, I ...
