Audio interface help.

I have read that Firewire audio interfaces will not work with Firewire ports that are on USB/Firewire "combo cards". Does anybody out there know of any interfaces that do? Also, I'm trying to find an interface (either Firewire or USB) that is known to work well with AmpliTube, and is compatible with...

Yeah, this is a beautiful album,....Doesn't he use drum samples on the intro to the first cut "I Love You", as well on the tune with that delta blues intro "As Tears Roll By"? Some a A-hole reviewer on the Pitchfork music site gave it a lukewarm rating simply because "........It's the kind of music ...

Andy's love of the instrument is just CRAZY apparent. The guy is truly a master. Sounded great all night, although I could see his brain just not being able to get going during the solo in "So Lonely." It was the only semi-weak thing all night, but fuck, if I were the guy who played the solo on tha...

Use of the words "warm" and "punchy"

"Warm" and "Punchy" are the most overused words in recording (probably by amateurs who want to sound hip)...........So what do they really mean?

.......Give some examples of some recordings that you think sound either "warm" or "punchy".

....or both.

Re: Stadiums

Well, that's the sort of comment that makes me want to go check it out. I've seen video of the Synchronicity tour. *shudder* I'm much more for the 1978-1980 version of the Police, although I do quite like Ghost in the Machine and "Synchronicty II" is one of my all time favorite songs. I'm happy to ...

Stadiums

anyone go to bonaroo? I'm not sure I want to spend the 100 bucks to see them in a football stadium... I don't know if the effect would be the same outdoors. The arena I saw them was packed, it almost felt like a small venue. My sister saw them during The Synchronicity tour in 1983 and she swears th...

The Police Concert

I saw The Police last night - it was incredible. They performed as a power trio, rough and raw. Some of the highlights: An opening power version of "Message in the Bottle". Sting has an incredible amount of energy left in him, I'll have to forgive him for being Sting. "Synchronicity II" - Complete w...

Pretty much the entire Beatles catalog. ...Yeah, I know. Yeah the Beatles stuff doesn't turn me on as much. I do like Strawberry Fields and Tommorrow Never Knows. A few tunes here and there, but generally I don't listen to them. I have a great deal of respect for them though, we've got to re...

A smattering representation: --Beach Boys (I really don't get it) I didn't like the Beach Boys either, but I'm growing to respect some of their music. I heard a good remastered version of Good Vibrations on XM radio, alongside some music of what's being done today in pop. It really blew the other s...

Re: Acclaimed recs that you're "just not that into"

..... and (thinking about this one is what got me to make this post) John Coltrane's Giant Steps album. He plays to many notes on that album. The only song I really like on it is Naima. Charlie Parker is that way too - to many notes. But when they settle down and focus on the melody, I think they s...

as a jazz player myself, I agree that most jazz musicians NEED to try to think of some other ways to present melodies and improvisation. Also, the sax player that said rock guys all write out their solos is not far off, but there is nothing at all wrong with that. What he omitted is that every jazz...

Do you think they might release an abbreviated version of The Cellar Door Sessions? They did it with the box set versions of Bitches Brew, Silent Way and the Gil Evans material. Don't know if it will hurt the effectiveness of the music presented as a whole box, but at least more people will be able ...

You'd think a jazz guy would have the open mind to think beyond "head/solo/solo/head" structure, but maybe not. Actually it's head/solo/solo - then before they do the head again at the end, the bass player takes a solo in which he ends it by twiddling around and the audience chuckles like they "get...
