Re: 1/2" mainframe data tape
I spoke to my father on this one. He is and was a computer operator/programmer for years throughout the late 60's on. He said that had to use pretty high quality tape or they would get pretty massive dropouts in the data. Sometimes they would use audio tape but it sometimes would cause problems. The...

Re: older grey Sennheiser 421 question.
I've used the new black one on bass, vocals, snare, and guitar. It does them all exceptionally well. For dynamics it's the way to go. I actually did a comparison between a Marshall V93, KSM27 and a 421 on a friend of mine's voice. We all agreed the 421 was the mic for his voice. It doesn't mean it's...

Barkmarket, L. Ron
Very condusive for aggressive driving needs.
Shiner, The Egg
It was stuck in my car stereo for a while. So it just
reminds me of driving.

Trance that always reminds me of driving. Especially

Re: FYI: guitar center Oktava mic sale
Is this only at certain stores?
I looked on line and no such sale is going on.
If you had a link or something that would be cool.
No guitar centers near where I live.
Crap.

Re: absolute beginner... trying to record vocals
V93m? I've recorded vocals, acoustic, and drum overheads with that mic. I would highly suggest getting a Really Nice Compressor. They are about 150 bucks and it worked pretty well with that Mic. I actually preferred a 421 for my vocal over this mic. In some situations the V93 was great, but I was al...

Re: Tips on recording a 410 amp?
Two basic ways of looking at it: If you close mic the amp, you'll get a tighter more focused sound. If you back the mic off a couple of feet as some have suggested, you'll get an airy more open sound. These two methods can be used on any kind of amp regardless of speaker size. Finding the sweet spot...

The coolest thing you learned from tape op?
That I can do it by myself. I don't need to hire someone to make my vision.

Re: George L's?
I have the same pedal board set. I haven't had any problems with it.
Use something very sharp to cut the cable (I used a pair of sharp scissors). The raw ends must be very clean.
Mine get unplugged, moved, stepped on, and generally abused, no complaints.
Maybe you got a batch of bad cable? Wierd.

Re: AKG mics
I borrowed an AKG c2000b from a friend. I used it extensively on guitars, voice, and drums. Without some pretty serious EQ work it sounded like poop on all sources . On guitars it wasn't bad, but a 421 or a 57 sounded way better. It was really only useful as a texture in places. I definitely wouldn'...
