Re: 16 more channels of analog compression

DBX 163X are awsome and usually around $75-100 used. Those have a lot of "snap" to them on drum shells. The 163a's the attack is faster so it has a slightly different sound. Pulls out more resonance of a drum shell. Presonus ACP88 actually sounds good and can be had cheap. I think reliability might ...

Re: Tom tricks

Since you don't like sample replacement you could try reamping the floor tom through a pa/bass/guitar amp. Then set a real floor tom in front of the speaker, mic up the floor tom and blend that in or use it by itself. You may need to align it in your daw because of the latency from reamping. When I ...

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer

I think in the 80's and 90's they were just abused a lot and got a bad rep. I've heard them used and can sound pretty cool, especially on like snare or toms. Just don't crank it to 11, be tasteful with it and it can sound cool. Also I think the same thing with the 3630. I still have one and they sou...

Re: Help me design my rooms

You could even have the bassist and guitarist in the control room with you doing direct or a low watt amp mic'd up, which might be more comfortable. Eye contact with band members may or may not be an issue. Depends on the band.

Re: Help me design my rooms

Since it's two small rooms I would make it as dead as possible and bass trap as much as possible (the whole room would be ideal in this situation). The reflections in that room could build up pretty bad. Close micing and eliminating the room as much as possible would lend to the cleanest results. I ...

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?

So many excellent mics under $1000 for vocals off the top of my head from my personal experience: EV RE20 Shure SM7b Heil PR 30 Rode NT1 Neat Kind Bee 3u Warbler series 3u CM1 Rode Procaster for specific situations, a handheld dynamic like an SM58 can sound great for punk or metal performances for s...

Re: bass drum mic - front or back?

If I had to pick just one side, I would pick the resonant side. Especially if the resonant side has a port you can easily get excellent kick drum sounds with the right mic and placement. Micing just the beater side sounds kinda crazy from my experience.

Re: NAC (National Audio Company) no longer making cassette tape (still doing Duplication though)

Tapes.com is where I go. I've heard a lot of bad from Delta. Messing up peoples orders fairly often, things of that nature.

Yeah, tapes sell quite well in certain underground communities. Punk, psyche, garage, math rock, etc..

Re: alesis wedge power supply problem?

Mine does that as well but I'm able to get it to stay if I get it just right.

The EeeEmmTee 1 setting makes it worth keeping. It seriously sounds good on vocals.
