Possibly... My whole studio's on one circuit which is shared with an apartment and wired god knows when and by god knows who, and I've had some issues. Here's what I've done to solve them with pretty decent success: Buss all patchbay grounds together, if they aren't already, using decent quality bus...

They claim not to have any parts for this model. as it's been discontinued for almost 10 years. I did manage to get an approximate supply rail voltage out of them, which helps, as I can easily enough find an AC wall wart at a thrift store and hook it up in place of the transformer... what I'd really...

blown presonus power supply

my old presonus ACP-8 blew it's power transformer, and although it's old, I'd love to bring it back to life. Does anybody know the power specs for these? I can't get much out of Presonus, they won't release a schematic.

Re: old Yamaha mixers PM1000, m1516

In my other career as a touring live sound engineer, I've run across many of the PM series mixers. They sound pretty decent; although I've never used one in a studio environment, I've gotten some pretty good board tapes off of them. In a classic engineering attempt to be different, for a while these...

Re: Wiring a monitor as a kick mic.

I'd think you'd be OK if, as you suggested, you left shield lifted at the speaker but landed it at the console. As long as it sees ground at one end, the noise it intercepts will drain to ground and stay out of your signal. The only reason why shield is always landed at both ends in a mic cable is t...

Re: PAIA tube mic pre

actually not bad... distorts fairly nicely in my experience. I will have to admit that I've only ever used it on stuff I didn't mind a little dirty... never my lead vocal. One day I'll get around to the mod, I've heard it's pretty good. If you're solder savvy, It's a good deal, but If it's going to ...

Re: After mixing down to 1/4", then...? What's the pro

Or better yet, If you're really into tape, why not look aroound for a cheap used 1/4" deck. I've seen tascam 22's going for $99 on ebay recently. Your local ME will definitely be able to work with your master. Plus, you'll still have it around for your next project. Analog decks are getting obscenel...

Re: DP4 & motu 828 woes

I just went through hell with negotiating a Motu vs. Panther battle. I found out through the apple website that immediatly after installing OS10, you then have to restart off of the install CD, open the disk utility, and "verify and repair disk permissions" for the drive that your OS is installed on...

Re: MOTU 828 mkII?

I just got one of these, and it seems to be pretty good, although I've had a fair amount of debugging to do to get it to work with OSX. It's firewire only, so beware, because your computer may not support, if it's not a Mac. I think you can get PCI firewire interfaces now, but I'm not certain. Howev...

Re: How do you guys get your huge guitar sounds?

I used to go back and forth seemlessly between 456 and 499 on my Tascam 38 without aligning... but that's a whole different thread. You may be right about the electronics not being able to handle high output without crapping out however... that does not lend itself to huge guitar sounds... Hack On!

Re: How do you guys get your huge guitar sounds?

While it's of course all relative to your machine's alignment, the part about the needles actually not moving was a bit of an exaggeration... I have had great luck with a hefty amount of tape compression on guitars recording on SM900 and 499. GP9 doesn't lend itself to this as well to my ears. Of co...

Re: Audix D6 (as well as other D series mics)

I'll swear by D2 on snare and D4's on toms... great bottom end on both, respective to those applications. For those frustrated with the mounting situation, OM series vocal mic clips turned backwards will hold them pretty well.

Re: How do you guys get your huge guitar sounds?

I've had very good luck with this combo of mics on a variety of amps. Senn. 409, beyer M88, SM7. One each on a speaker (assuming you're micing a 4x12 cab) very close, all through the best preamps available, of course. mix all to one track, and play around with placement of each mic until phase seems...
