question about mastering
hello friends who like tape op, i have just finished engineering my first record for a friends band, who are sending it to be mastered by doug van sloan. my question is that 1 song that we recorded is not quite as loud as the others, and a tad "duller" sounding. is this something that the mastering ...

Re: 1176 vs Distressor
chris is right on about the distressor being a little more versatile. i have the 1176 and distressor both in my rack, and i use the distressor much more than the 1176. maybe cause it sounds a little drier to me. but, the 1176 is amazing, i totally love it. its sound is a bit mushier than the distres...

Re: Intonation - Bass Guitar
the saddle is the thing that each string sits on by the bridge, you will have a screw for each string somewhere on the bridge piece, not to be confused with the set of screws that raise and lower your bridge. turning the screw one way or the other will make the intonation sharper or flatter. the met...

Re: Kid A/Amnesiac Sessions
whats with you radiohead haters? every super famous rock band in rock history is extremely pretentious. i mean, it goes with the territory. imagine if millions of people were buying your records, record after record. maybe people would start to think you were a pretentious a-hole, for being successf...

Re: can anyone recommend a set of bass strings
i absolutely LOVE MTD bass strings. 45-105 is what i use. michael tobias design strings, check them out. ive been using them for years on my jazz bass, and again, LOVE them.
choice of strings varies so much with personal preference, DR's would be my second choice.

Re: GROHL DRUMS (queens of the stone age) DELICIOUS! let's t
i know the dvd shows that there are cymbals on the drums, but i read an interview with dave grohl that explained that the cymbals were done seperately, i cant remember what magazine it was unfortunately. i also just remember them showing grohl learning his parts, not actually recording. but i havent...

Re: GROHL DRUMS (queens of the stone age) DELICIOUS! let's t
the drums and cymbals were tracked seperately. alot of the album was done live in the studio, so dave used electronic drum pads to trigger cymbal sounds during the recording, and later overdubbed them. i use this technique all the time, and it works awesome. but i would imagine some drummers not wan...

Re: Master fader level in ProTools ???
i try to make a compromise with both using protools. ill lower all the tracks a bit, and then ill lower the master fader. i generally try to keep my master fader above -3. this isnt a rule, but its worked out best for me. im sure other people on this board have different practices, id be curious wha...

Re: Metal Distortion out of a Marshall?
joel's right on with the marshall jcm 800 and 2000. both can sound super heavy if you tweak the knobs right. i have the 2000, and love it. the guy from muse uses it as well, can you beat his guitar tone? nope.

Re: Can An Otari MX5050 Slave To Something Else?

Re: otari mX 50 50 question
the only problem i had with my mx5050 was with the xlr inputs in the back. i didnt adjust my machine, but switched pin 2 and 3 on the cables that i use for input. until i did that, i had no signal input, and was a source of major stress for me. im obviously no expert, hopefully you can get it figure...
