Re: help troubleshoot a buzzzzz on Beyer M160

I've got a Beyer ribbon that buzzes under certain circumstances, usually a laptop interface with no solid ground. Totally fine into a regular mixer.

Re: Ardour on a Raspberry Pi. The $35 DAW?

I was using Ardour on Linux for a little bit around 2004/2005, and it definitely wasn't fun to get working. Speaking of the Pi, anybody care to recommend a decent 2-channel USB audio interface? Toying with the idea of using one as a media server for music. I recently got one to use as a network prin...

Hung and tuned a Meyer Leopard line array system in a big theater in the city - it's for some shows by the English National Ballet next weekend.

QSC is a very solid company - they have some small install-type amps without fans.

Re: Too much equipment. Trim down?

It's still relevant. Moreso these days because I'm getting rid of stuff right now. Not just audio gear, though a few old project items have already left, but all kinds of stuff I was saving for when I finally bought a house. I've been in the house almost four years, and the stuff that hasn't been us...

Re: Headphones and comfort

Depends on the size of your skull, too... I've got one of those oversize Scottish melons, and some of the headphones do fit a bit snug. Changing ear cushions might help, but might also change the sound. You could try stretching the headband out a bit, though - that's where the pressure is coming from.

A Dante-based stage box and a copy of Dante Virtual Soundcard for the computer?

Re: Reamped Bass Phase Issue

4-6 feet of air delay means roughly 4-6 mS of time offset, which I think gets you at 180 degrees out of phase at somewhere around 200Hz, so you're going to see some lesser cancellation even lower. Throw in some converter latency and you definitely have a phase problem... which you won't fix using th...

Re: Condenser Mic Innards???

What's the capsule? Lots of stuff available these days if it's for a common part.

One of the common DIY condensor mic designs that doesn't need capsule polarizing voltage is the "Alice" and a few people are making PCB boards for that now.

Re: Troubleshoot: Random Popping Noise on Condenser Mic

I generally wouldn't use a pipe cutter to disassemble a Behringer mic.

I prefer to use a hammer, or perhaps a large rock.

Re: Let's talk substance

Not all that much, really. I gave up caffeine a few years ago due to the side effects (mostly the diuretic bit plus not being able to sleep at night), and while I still drink it's gradually a little less every year. I used to even brew my own beer! Music and engineering is a stone sober thing for me...

Had to think about that for a minute but makes sense. The physical rotation of the generator creates the delay in 3 phase. Center tapping a winding is just some electrical trickery with a single phase.
If you have an electric stove in your home then it runs on balanced power.

Re: Unbalanced Polarity Flip

phases is appropriate here - phases don't exist to flip on unbalanced lines - - you have two phases in relation to ground on a balanced line It's polarity in this case. Phase refers to time delay, measured in degrees at a specific frequency. Which makes it kind of hard to pin down when there are a ...
