Re: vintage high end military equipment

I got a Korean War era Army surplus movie projector at a hippie barter fair about 5 years ago because i saw that it had 6L6's in it. I was just going to part it out for the tube sockets, etc., but when i checked the schematics on it, it was the same basic circuit as all the classic Fender guitar amp...

fmr rnc walwart question

I can't remember which of the wall warts floating around my studio is for the RNC. The current and voltage requirements are listed on the box (9v 600ma) but it doesn't say whether the center pin of the supply connection is positive or negative. Does anybody have one around to check for me? it should...

Re: large diaghram cardiod condensor question

Creepy, I just posted a question about maintaining mine while you posted this. It really is a great mic. Even running it through the crappy little behringer board I had when I first bought it changed the quality of my recordings drastically. That's a great price, the resale on those things is good a...

UA 2108 Line Level Input Question

So I just unpacked my new UA 2108 and noticed the wierd quirk where the low gain settings are only for the front Hi-Z input and not the XLR's in back. I am curious about running some line level signals from computer or tape through this box (after hearing all the hype about folks running signals thr...

Microphone maintenance/cleaning

I was reading through the manual for my Nuemann TLM 103 and it mentioned something about regular cleaning of the diaphram. Does anybody really do this? I've had the mic for about 6 or 7 years now and it has definetly seen it's share of dust, no smoke though. Before i invested in some good preamps I ...

Re: any recommendations on a distortion/overdrive pedal?

There are so many good ones out there..... Bixonic Expandora I (not II) I thought these were my little secret....My favorite distortion pedal ever. It's amazing how distorted you can get this thing and still hear articulation in the notes. Capable of some amazing fuzz tones as well, but not quite l...

tape op mic linkwys labs mod question

so if you cut the trace, do you actually have to cut through the bottom of the aluminum (?) housing that wraps around the bottom to expose the copper underneath? that's what i sounds like from his description, but i wanted to double check it. I assume it's because you cant solder the extra lead to t...

George Harrison Vibrato/chours effect on Don't Let Me Down

I'm finally giving the "Let It Be....Naked" a more serious listen. I still think it was more promotional shuck then anything, though the remaster aspect of it definetly sounds good. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew what the vibrato/phase effect the Harrison was using, specifically on Don't Let...

Re: best pre with digital outs

the converters are way beyond what digi puts into the 002... and the ability to clock your system from the mini-me will also make your ears happy. So, if I understand you correctly, you can sync the whole digi002 to the word clock in the Mini-me? I am still a bit ignorant in some aspects of the dig...

Re: best pre with digital outs

by "iffy" i meant that they are OK, but not amazing. it seems like focusrite stuff gets knocked a lot on this board and elsewhere. The Lundahl transformers and "Rupert Neve designed" part of the ISA ones definetly made me curious though. thanks for all the opinions.

Re: best pre with digital outs

What do the Apogee's pre's in the Mini-me sound like? I can't imagine that they would be to knock you socks off for the price. What about the Focusrite ISA? I've heard such iffy stuff about the sound of their pre's but this seems like these are a little bit more fancy the what they are throwing in w...

Re: Toft ATC-2

anybody compare one with a sytek? I've heard the toft pre's described as more on the transparent side (as well as stale and boring). The sytek is a similar flavor (in regards to "transparency") and sort of in the same price per channel range. thanks.

best pre with digital outs

I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere, but i am not sure what to search for. If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great. I'm looking for a dual pre with digital outs to use with the SPDIF/IN on my DIGI002 so i can record up to 10 tracks live at 24 bit 96khz. Ideally it...
