The problem I had with it was that it wouldn't work properly if there was a hard drive on the same firewire buss (on my laptop). That's one of the things I wondered about. The laptop has 2 firewire ports, but I assume only one bus. I don't imagine there's much way around this: my longstanding impre...

Behringer FCA202 firewire audio interface
Anyone familiar with these? I am wondering if it would have better sound quality (and less noise) than a Griffin iMic, or my laptop's built-in audio ports. I would be using this with a Firewire Powerbook (a G3, only 400 or 500 MhZ) and neither the Behringer documents nor the retail websites are clea...

I was going to add Midwest Analog Products, but unfortunately it seems Thomas Henry has closed up shop:

Haven't seen them in the wild in the DC area, but I haven't searched too hard honestly. I do spend a good bit of time looking at magazine racks though (it's part of my day job actually), so I'll keep an eye out. I had never heard of TapeOp until I found it at the B&N in Bethesda. However, that was ...

Hypothesis: Lowering pitch by 1200 cents results in a pitch change of one octave. Reducing tape speed by 100% also results in a pitch change of one octave. So, using 7th grade arithmetic (i.e. 32/1200 = n/100, alternatively 100/1200 = n/32), in order to reduce the pitch by 32 cents, or 32/1200ths, I...

Isn't it just 100 cents per half step? I don't know what you meant by percentage change. What's 100% change in your scenario here? An octave? A half-step? Percentage of what? That's a good question! I'm in Sound Studio now. looking under the "Filter" menu. I select "Pitch and Tempo..." and theres a...

I dont know the specific stuff you are using well enough, nor do I consider myself good at math ;) Try moving the percentages around until the track sounds good to you. It helped me to have the pitch correction on full tilt while getting the pitch right. To complicate matters futher, aren't cents r...

Pitch correction: Cents vs. overall percentage?
I have obtained a concert recording which, I'm told, is 32 cents sharp. My editing software (Audacity & Sound Studio, on Mac OS X) allows me to change pitch in terms of a percentage, but not cents (which IIRC is hundredths of a semitone). Is there an easy way to calculate the change in percentage th...

Re: Patch cables sound like ass
his example of organ output to mixer..reveals at least one thing hes wiring has an unbalanced output..whether the mixer has an unbal or bal input is not known.. It's a Mackie 1202, and the input says "Bal or Unbal." But I still get the hum if I run the cord to an amp instead (i.e. until I soldered ...

Her book Grapefruit looks interesting and fun, judging from the reviews (haven't yet read it myself).

The latter (i.e. organ to mixer). Uh-oh!stuntbutt wrote:By "patch cable" do you mean a cable used to patch points on a patchbay or a cable to go between equipment?
Where else should I look to eliminate the hum?

Re: Patch cables sound like ass
connecting the shield on both sides is correct on TS i's to TS o's i think... Thanx for that (I bookmarked the link). I have a Craig Anderton book and some guitar-wiring instructions that say otherwise, but that got me where I am (see subject line). Grounding both ends sounds better, at least for t...

Patch cables sound like ass
Howdy, I put together a few patch cables (1 conductor, 1 shield; TS connectors) and all but one of them add a nasty hum to the sound. I've checked for shorts between the conductor and ground - everything's OK (to the extent that I can try flexing the cable in one hand and hold the multimeter in the ...
