Re: Liquid Channel
I have one and love mine. Some people might not be able to differentiate between or need 40 different preamps, but having one box that does a compelling Fairchild, LA2A, 1176, Joe Meek, etc. compressor is pretty f-ing awesome. Plus I can save presets from a session and control it from my DAW. Oh wai...

Rick R. sends his engineer out to a studio with a DAT machine and a snare drum and has him record the sound of the solo snare in the room to see if he wants to record there.

Re: Amp modeling vs. tape modeling
Great quote from UA. These guys are really doing great emulations and understand the complexities of the problem. I've talked with people there quite a bit and I'm very impressed.

Re: Amp modeling vs. tape modeling
Not to throw fuel on a fire (and disregarding people's like or dislike of U2 which is often discussed here), but the Edge is a guy whose playing and tone I greatly respect. He can also buy and sell just about everyone of us here... and our gear. He can also afford a wall of AC-30s mic'd by the best ...

Re: Amp modeling vs. tape modeling
There are several ways to do modeling, one way is to model the individual components of the device. So for a guitar amp or a compressor, they look at the schematic and try to emulate how all of the individual components work together using mathematical models of the components (tubes, resisters, etc...

Re: Dave Grohl/QOTSA: recording technique. true?
This is a trick to use if you're recording a drummer who has no taste when it comes to cymbals (i.e. they play them all the time, all over everything).

Re: Converting DVD audio to CD audio
Not to be "the man" here, but the DVD audio is also encrypted and by cracking it you'll be breaking the Digital Millineum Copyright Act.
Even talking about it here is probably illegal.
You could always record the analog outs of the player and burn that.

Re: Can I install a new woofer myself?
Be careful of the acid-based cooling fluid. That stuff will eat through your skin like that Alien movie. Evil! Evil! I burnt a hole the size of a dinner plate through my floor and lost a cat one time trying to repair one of those woofers on my own. DON'T DO IT!!!!!! I'm kidding. It should be very ea...

Re: Best (funniest) band website (meant to be serious)
I don't think it's really that crazy bad.
Looks like a bunch of guys who like to get together and rock out - the country's full of bands like this.
But then again, what would you expect from PA.
