I don't get it. This band falls into the same category as Television for me. The category is: bands you are supposed to like because someone else told you they are great. Sorry. The Dizzy songs is a wanking 2 chord jam that sounds exactly like what I do with my buddies when we get together. You don...

First heard him through John Zorn, then Tom Waits. A great musician who left us too early.

Re: contact mics
yes --- anytime i've used a contact mic in the past i've plugged it into some form of stompbox/pedal. (usually distortion!)psychicoctopus wrote:Piezo contact pickups are high impedance devices, like guitar pickups, so they might sound weird going straight into a mixing board.

contact mics
hey all, i've been researching the logistics of making a contact mic, and it seems a fairly straitforward solder-and-go project, but i have a couple of questions about piezo transducers/speakers. i am looking for something that will give me a better-than-average frequency range, but i am unsure abou...

Re: the greed that is the beatles
I suggest that it would be more fruitful to return to the technical and artistic matters which have typically been the home of at least this forum of the TapeOp bulletin board. I think there are other forums where this would be better located. hey hula, i agree absolutely with your position, except...

Apparently MO discs have the longest shelf life (about 50-100 years, but how would they know that yet?).

Re: protools LE DAE error messages
Wendy, I?m not sure if you have any other peripheral devices connected to your computer, but if you do, make sure you unplug them all (MO drives, printers, scanners, whatever) before starting a session. Also, you can check the speed of your processor by selecting ?Apple System Profiler? from the App...

Re: Has anyone used Native Instruments Kontakt?
Speaking of Reason, I've had some difficulty running the Refuse patch on my Mac. It's installed, but I can't seem to open Reason in protools with Refuse as a "plug in" which I guess is the theory.... Any suggestions? Umm... not to be blunt, but read the supplied manual. Leigh Marble (who is a frequ...

Re: Making a protools mix sound better?
Thanks for the suggestions guys, they are helping already. I have compressor II and Limiter II I have been trying them out all day as inserts on the master fader. Can anyone suggest some good settings for these ? First play with the compression until you can actually hear the effect (i.e. a ?pumpin...

Re: whats your fav recording right now, or some anyways
Lately, I've been enjoying the new Fall anthology 'Totally Wired' from the Rough Trade years. Mark E. Smith at his cynical best --- raw performances all around, and really some of their best work, in my opinion. Another album I picked up at Aquarius in San Francisco entitled 'Pharaoh Overlord #2'. F...

... or perhaps the solo in the Zappa song "Cosmic Debris" off 'Apostrophe'... ooooh! also whoever mentioned 'maggot brain' --- i love the guitar all over that album. great riff, great tone on 'super stupid' --- r.i.p. eddie. also, derek bailey's tone (and those great sounds) he coaxes out of the gu...

Hi Fletcher,
Thanks for your detailed response. I doubted it, but simply didn't have the knowledge in this area --- thanks for clearing it up.
