Re: MBox crashes

perhaps this will help... having free space on your harddrive is a good thing, but unless you are close to having a full harddrive, it's not going to really matter if you have 40 gigs free or 80 gigs free. both are plenty of space. the reason that external harddrives are helpful is twofold. 1 - ofte...

Re: MBox crashes

since protools itself is running on the cpu, you will ALWAYS be better off recording to an external drive. do you HAVE to use an external drive? no. but it will ALWAYS be smoother. firewire drives are really cheap these days, too. plus, you can use it and back up your files on your internal cpu drive.

MBox crashes

Lately my mbox has been crashing out at startup. it will load about 3/4's of the way, and then quit, saying an unexpected error occurred. I can't figure out if this is software related, or hardware related? I have a 15" powerbook G4 with 1.25Ghz processor and 512MB of memory. I run protools LE 6.4. ...

Re: Reason Users: Question from a rookie...

make sure you are sending MIDI to the correct channel that's designated in reason. the light will flash on your USB MIDI device if any MIDI is received, but it may be on channel 1, yet reason is looking for channel 2. if that's not the case, i recommend a ful restart of all computer and keyboard equ...

Re: thoughts on pro tools and beat detective.

i gotta chime in now, cause for the past year, i worked at a studio where beat detective and autotune were the norm. i thought it was so lame that these tools were used so often, many times when completely unnecessary. but, as has been noted a few times in this thread, the end product is what matter...

Re: tracking on a Harrison

i worked on a series 10B for most of last year. i liked the board eq, but it was a bit soft. you had to boost or cut to at least 4 or 5 db before you started hearing changes. it was also fully recall-able at the click of a button, so that was good. but we also had a huge array of outboard eq's, so w...

It seems people really can't be bothered to do a Google search before posting a question and I'm not gonna repeat myself over and over...
why would you bother us with your precious time to write a response that doesn't even answer the question?

Re: I think i may be retarded

try this (if you haven't already)...open protools(the application). then open the session you are trying to open from inside the application. sometimes when you are dealing with sessions from different versions of the software, it is best to open the app first, then the session. also, you'll probabl...

hip-hop...and by hip-hop i mean this: it's 4am early sunday morning. you've been behind the board for 12 hours. the lights are so dim, you can barely see your hand 2 feet in front of your face. everyone but you is drunk and stoned. and by everyone, i mean the 25 people who showed up for the party, u...

Re: best Hammond B3 clone to plug into a Leslie Speaker?

i think something that many of you are overlooking is that this is a recording forum, not a keyboard forum. we are not talking about which keyboard has the most accurate volume pedal or drawbars, but which keyboard sounds the closest to a b3 in a recording atmosphere. i am a keyboard player myself, ...

Re: Name Dropping thread

i have a few second-hand run-ins that are pretty amusing... 1-just this past month, my brother and his friends saw tom hanks outside of an east village bar in ny, and tom asked if they were hookers. apparently, he was really drunk, some woman came outside and apologized for tom's behavior, and dragg...

Re: Anyone Graduate SAE in NYC?

as everyone's already said, you're gonna get a lot more experience by reading, watching, maybe even an internship. and for what it's worth, as the former hiring manager/chief engineer at a nyc recording studio, NO ONE was impressed with a degree from SAE or full sail. everyone started out at the bot...

Least Favorite Instrument(alist) revised

Ok. how bout a variation on the "least favorite instrument" thread. since it's pretty clear that any instrument can sound good if you give it to the right player, why don't we discuss what players or songs ruined particular instruments? i'll start with the sax since there are many dissenters...while...
