The trick is to prevent damaging pops when you're going from one set of monitors to another while listening. You could either a) be mentally diligent and never do this (and I wouldn't trust myself not to), or b) put some caps to ground in there, which might "taint" your sound. At this point, I defer...

FS: Soundcraft Spirit 24 [updates, lowered prices]
I'm moving, and my new place doesn't have a studio! So... gotta get rid of a few items that I can't fit. In particular: Soundcraft Studio 24 - One channel is dead (clip light is perminently on), but everything else works-- channel inserts, 4 auxes, 8 groups, split channels, 4-band EQ, etc. Comes wit...

Re: bad habits in R&B/Hip Hop
I try to avoid listening to radio / top40 music because, well, I don't have to listen to it and other stuff sounds better to me. ;) So I picked up Definitive Jux Presents III , under the impression and assertion that Def Jux was a cut above. Unfortunately, unlike some earlier Def Jux releases I late...

Re: DIY 'Gramma' platform
Color me daft, but what does a "Gramma" platform do? Isolate the amp from the floor?

Re: synth amps
If you're worried about overpowering the amp with too large a signal from the synth, perhaps you could use one of those "reamp" boxes?pj wrote:i have a korg poly 61 that i have been running through guitar amps recently. since thats a really bad idea...

Re: Moving air in the Home Studio
When they travel out in that pattern or whichever occilliation that your amp pumps out, they will reflect off of the harder surfaces and cause natural reverb to happen which gives you sound wherever it bounces from there..etc.. So maturation in a sound wave is the addition of ambiance (wall reflect...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
Out of curiosity, what "great albums" have been recorded in the last 5 years on analog? I don't ask this as a challenge, because I know there are plenty; I'm just not familiar.

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
OK, by your logic, then, it doesn't matter what the recordings were made on. So who cares?JASIII wrote:Let's not confuse content or icon-ism with "good sound"

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
From page 4 of an interview with Rick Rubin ... Michael Fremer: I mean the Johnny Cash recordings you were involved with sound fantastic and I?m sure the vinyl was cut from digital sources. Rick Rubin: It was. Everything is digital on those. The first couple were recorded on ADAT and the later ones ...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
Is it just me, or has the increasing crappiness of modern music coinsided with the increasing digitalness of it? I think that the two have co-insided, but are not necessarily interconnected. Which is not to say that the coming of digital technology hasn't made the record-making process available to...
