The first time I learned about this mic setup, I was the drummer, and the guy setting up the mic said, "Just so you know, this mic is pointed at your balls."

I think saying that to the drummer is a pretty key factor in getting the proper sound out of the crotch mic.

There's the Tascam PB-32P. It's a 32 point unbalanced patchbay. It's still not the 24 points you're looking for, but it's closer than 48!

I messed around with the RE-20 at GC today. Obviously it's not a perfect emulation of the original, but it is one of the better attempts that I have heard. I'm not going to try and tell you how it sounds, but what I can say is that I had a lot more fun playing around with the RE-20 than I ever had k...

Pornography and Disintegration are my favorites, but lately I've been more into the more psychedelic side of The Cure like Japanese Whispers, The Top, and especially The Glove's Blue Sunshine.

That documentary was awesome. Totally eye-opening. A lot of us are doing the home recording thing these days, finding the best parts of our homes to get certain kinds of sounds like using the bathroom for reverb and all that. He was doing it all 50 years ago and it sounds killer.

I always find inconsistencies between double tracked takes to be quite charming. To each his own, I suppose.

If you want to record your keyoard in stereo through the mbox mini you'll need two cables. One will go from the left output of your keyboard into input 1 on your mbox mini, and the other will go from the right output of your keyboard into input 2 on your mbox mini.

Re: Mixing Reel to Reels (Fostex-R8 opinons)?

How do you mix (panning/eq) to reel to reels? Does it all have to be done before putting it on the tape? You won't be mixing TO the tape machine, you'll be mixing FROM the tape machine. It's all done after tracking when you're mixing down to 2-track. I suppose you can EQ on the way in, but panning ...

Signal flow was totally drilled into my brain during my first year of school. I think I can draw the signal flow of an SSL 4000 E/G+ in my sleep.

After hearing this record I would really love to hear all of the other Beatles releases remixed/remastered in such a fashion. Some of the mashups were questionable, but the remixed songs, particularly I Am The Walrus, sounded amazing. It's the first time I've heard the Beatles on CD having the same ...

I dig a lot of what's been mentioned already (Morricone, Goblin, Wendy Carlos, Jon Brion, Mark Mothersbaugh, Danny Elfman, Air, Kevin Shields, The Holy Mountain...), but one that nobody's mentioned so far is Tobe Hooper's score for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There's barely a single melody...

I've been a fan for a long time...I saw them at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago in July. It was great. I can't say I've listened to much of their latest album, but The Civil War is definitely a fave.
