Seamonster Sounds back in the flow soon.....

Our place might qualify as remote, depending on your perspective, and it?s definitely unusual. We have a tracking room and dedicated control room in a converted 75-year old artist-built house on an isolated bluff in old Malibu ? rustic, not glamorous. The tracking room (~4,500 cu.ft.) overlooks the ...

Even after everything he brought, it still feels too soon. One of the gods.

So a lot of it comes down to the old truth: it?s the player. I hadn?t heard of holes around the cup of the bottom cymbal. I?m thinking of different, contradictory things that might achieve. One would be to direct some air pressure (created when the cymbals come together) away from the cymbals? edge....

Hi Gregg (and others), If I?m hearing you right, you could just as well say that smaller hats might help too, right? That the advice here in this thread boils down to: try out different hats. Let?s see if I know something about music physics. Even if a large hat is thinner than a smaller one, it wil...

This has become a nice thread. Several have recommended larger hats. That would seem counterintuitive to me. Larger equals more mass, equals lower frequency ? which means more low-end to roll off. Also, wouldn't larger typically mean louder? Someone please 'splain me the rationale for larger. (Actre...

Oh, you too, vvv, thanks. Whatever I do with the box, I'm sure I'll have to experiment with absorption. If ever room-tone is critical, I can always use the tracking room, live-with-bleed or overdubbed. But I figure the box will be good enough for some cases, together with a DI track. It might end up...

Oh right [slaps forehead] ? keep a head in the control room. I was temporarily dazzled by the notion that there are now computer-controllable amps out there. Good save, Nick. Sure, the whole notion of virtual inline pedal FX is still kinda sexy to me, but I imagine that once I listen to the latest m...

amp iso cabinet + remote-controlled amp... ideas?

As I?m nearing the end of my studio build/remodel project, I?d now like to focus more on ways of creatively using the iso cabinet I?ve built into a closet in an adjacent room. The cabinet-inside-the-closet is well isolated from both tracking and control rooms, yet nearby. My main expected use is to ...

Lots of 16 X 24 tracking rooms? I would wonder what proportion of all rooms they comprise ? there are lots of studios in the world ? and how many of 'em actually sound good. Reducing by a foot to account for the walls would certainly be better. How much, I dunno. A foot is pretty thick for a single ...

I'll get to your question in a sec, but first... The simpler the ratios among dimensions (H,W,L), the greater the standing-wave resonances, and the further your room will be from displaying a smooth, balanced frequency response. Ideally, you want the dimensions not to share common multiples. For ins...

Goose, Looks like you're doing greatness for Bro Shark (I only say "looks like" because I'm not an expert). A brief digression. You wrote: 3. Shed the load of the panel by turning off the breakers until they are all off. 4. Turn off the main. What exactly is the point of "shedding the load"? When I ...

.... Bonding to the box is fine and good, but if we don't have the continuity to the electrode (in this case, the water pipe) then all the bonding in the world won't help. .... Something tells me that there is some improper bonding going on in the system for that kind of noise to be generated. .......

the outlets are in a metal (not plastic) box? you'd just run a ground wire from the green screw on the outlet to a ground screw in the box.... If you have BX, as Goose134 describes, then MoreSpaceEcho's suggestion should work (assuming the BX is providing continuity all the way back to ground at th...

The fact that the few bad files play fine for the first hour or so then suddenly go bad beyond that point suggests that it's not a simple question of the codec. Loading them back onto the original recorder would seem like a good idea, but the same file-goes-from-good-to-bad concept applies. And I do...
