I used one of those for a few years ago and was immensely confused.. I never really understood the control set on it. For those of us who have trouble wrapping the brain around it (me), can you explain the practical theory behind the crest factor and the hysteresis controls? Try this link: http://w...

Re: Dual Tube Mic Pre Advice...
(because tubes are better/warmer right?), Wrong. Don't limit yourself that way. Some of the most popular preamps that people refer to as "warm", especially in your price range, are solid state. There are great tube pres and great solid state pres in your price range, but just because someone stuck ...

Re: heil pr30 or 40 for rock guitar
Which would you say is better to mic a loud, distorted/over driven guitar cab with? Generally speaking, the PR30 has been used more in this application (Tool, James Gang, Converge, Linkin Park, Queens of the Stone Age among others). But it depends on the tone of the guitar amp and how you want it t...

Re: RE 20 Shockmount
It probably doesn't even really need one, but since one exists there's this mental need for it. Thanks in advance. Neil Get over the "mental need." The shockmount exists mainly for broadcast, so it doesn't couple to the spring loaded booms and make noise when someone grabs the boom to move it. The ...

The price increases you are seeing, and will be seeing, are mostly because of the cost of metal work. The price of metal has gone up dramatically of late. Also, anything made with petroleum has been going up. This includes foam for cases etc... All of this is mostly due to the success of Chinese man...

The PR-30 webpage, or if you look it up on ebay, you'll see a Quote by Joe Baressi, "The PR-30 is the best mic I've used in 5 years." Also a good endorsement. I think the 30 is mainly the same mic with a low end roll off. I went with the 40 mainly for kick, but now that I've heard it's versitility ...

I think if the mic has a transformer (SM57, SM58) it will "ignore" the +48, but if it doesn't (SM7B) the voltage will be sent right through the capsule. It isn't the transformer, it is the balanced signal that makes phantom power is invisible to any dynamic that is correctly wired. It has been know...

Re: Audio Technica Digital reference mics...
FWIW-- "Digital Reference" is the Guitar Center private label brand built by Audio Technica. They are not different than the "Pro Series" by AT that everyone else sells. I am sure lots of people can comment on those!
