Waves Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain --> thoughts?

Do you use it?
How do you use it?

Parallel drum smasher?!

The Abbey Road eq plugs have been pretty musical to shine things up, so I'm just reading the manual to Waves Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain.

Waves Nx: Virtual Mix Room

https://dt7v1i9vyp3mf.cloudfront.net/styles/news_large/s3/imagelibrary/n/nx011701-OWvHRonC_dpXI.SSAZJXfZDAA6I_n0NN.jpg The goal isn't to mix records on headphones as a substitute for a nice control room. But can you at least use a "virtual mix room" it to get the levels right? This is how they tell...

Re: Automatic EQ Opinions

Ozone... Thoughts about this? --> I sat in the control room at a very expensive studio with diamond-encrusted monitors, and watched this ace ripping through Ozone. Here's what he did: - Set the Maximizer to a ballpark level, then set it to Gain Matching... - He swept through the spectrum in Surgical...

Repairing old corrupted files of yesteryear!?

Anyone know about fixing old corrupted audio? I can still hear parts of the drum machine at the correct tempo, but clearly it's horrifically damaged. Is there any way to scan it in Audition to see what's wrong? Please help! (attached are some images from Audition) This was originally from a cassette...

I hate the word "law" being applied in a music-related context :P
Well luckily this is in a technological context :P :P

Re: ~

At it's most basic, a mono-izing plugin should just add the two channels together, preferably divide by two, then spit that result back out to each channel. When it is engaged, in order to STOP a given source from being attenuated as it's panned away from center, you'd need a 6db pan law. Well, act...

Re: eBay seller sent me the wrong mic....

Follow the Golden Rule and send it back if possible. But if they're unresponsive, and if you are fine with having the other mic, then you've done all you can do.

Pan/Mixing in Mono

http://scienceprojectchennai.com/images/electrical-circuits/big/Stereo-Setup.gif If I'm mixing in mono on headphones a (stereo field plugin and set the width to 0%) and I pan a track hard left or right (which in a stereo mix would only send its signal to one speaker), should my stereo-field plugin ...

Re: Subtractive EQ

Check your mixes in mono! All tracks active, nothing muted. If you're hearing a sludgy soup, then it's time to make some space in your mix. Mono!

Waves RVox?

https://img.wavescdn.com/1lib/images/products/plugins/preview/renaissance-vox.png What specifically does this compressor do differently than a stock compressor/limiter? I'd like to know what's actually going on under the hood. A lot of us ITB freaks often use compressor plugins in series. Is it not...

One thing I'll say about the H2n... the batteries last for-ev-er. It's unbelievable. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I've been waiting a long time...

Re: Attn: Recording Teachers (of teens)

But still, if kids coming up aren't learning on four-tracks, just a laptop and no limits, I wonder if it's affecting how they make music. I always try to arrange demo sessions to recreate the experience of a live band with a finite number of performers/tracks, but maybe that's too old school?

Re: home recording techniques

I'm sure you know this already, but this is not "slamming to tape" in the usual usage of that term. I love recording on cassette 4-tracks, and often leave the hiss in the final master, because why not! Having to ping-pong also gets one better at arranging.

Re: iZotope Ozone - multiband compressor?

I was at a nice studio* doing a super-fast "mastering" and the guy used Ozone like a champ. His process was this: Throw Ozone on the Master Sweep through the mix using the EQ, noting freq areas that sounded too crowded Subtract out a couple/few dB at each crowded freq Add a pinch of tube Exciter App...
