No offense taken... I was just having a little fun with busting yer chops. That's why I put the "winky guy" emoticon at the end of the post.

Well, that's exactly why the level control, mute and assign switches are labeled OPTIONAL on that schematic. One man's "waste of time and money" is another man's damn-handy feature. Here's a simpler rendition with just pushbutton on/off switches for left and right. http://groupdiy.twin-x.com/albums/...

Insane!

My old neighborhood (Ridgewood) seemed relatively devoid of the hipster/yuppie scourge when I visited last summer, but I know it's only a matter of time...

So, I'll just stick around up here in Metro-North country--in my $850 two-bedroom, thank you very much

The drummer in my old band (mid '80s) used to clip pics out of porno mags and tape them to his drums. And I thought he was a freak... but apparently, he was merely typical.

What waveform? Which frequency? What output level?

Just saying "oscillator" tells us next to nothing.

It's really not complicated. We're sitting in a room, facing a spaced pair of speakers, and there's a signal coming out of one speaker. If we send the same signal to a second speaker, at exactly the same amplitude, we've doubled the power of that signal. It won't sound "twice as loud" to our ears bu...

I was born on Wyckoff Ave. and I NEVER thought I'd see the day when people would talk of moving TO Bushwick! I lived in a nearby "nice" neighborhood, to which people would usually relocate from Bushwick as soon as they could afford it . Even back in my father's time (1950s), you didn't go west...

Before you go any further, make sure it has a power transformer. Many consumer electronics of the tube era (radios, phonographs, etc.) did not use a power transformer, so one side of the chassis is connected to the AC line. This is VERY unsafe.

Hey gang... I've been asked to come out of retirement (my last visit here was in May '04), so I'll be stopping by every so often to see how things develop. Best o' luck on the new venture. :^:

Black Sabbath "Black Box"

A good transfer or another squashed (to sound "modern") remaster? If you've heard it or own it, please speak up.

Re: grounding a guitar amp

So, what was that I was saying about taking what you read on the internet with a grain of salt? ;) 1) You CAN solder to a chassis. You just need a very powerful iron with a wide tip. MCM electronics used to sell a 100-watt model that worked well. Notice that I didn't say "soldering gun"... guns have...

Re: Distortion/overdrive pedal for a telecaster?

I built a mini-amp that also works very well as an overdrive pedal in front of a good tube amp. It has plenty of gain, probably more than enough even for a Tele. Try it out... only a few bucks to build: http://www.ionrecords.com/tapeop/fistofury.gif It doesn't have much of a clean sound when used on...

Re: The beauty of the line amp

So line amps are the new hip digital-warmup-bandaid now? Cool! I have a bunch of Dynair line amps and I might be looking to sell some soon. Discrete transistor throughout, UTC transformers on input and output. "Be the first on your block..." ;)

Re: grounding a guitar amp

I'm reluctant to advise any inexperienced person about messing around with AC power wiring. But since you're bound to get a bunch of misleading and ill-informed replies, I'll offer a few simple rules which should help to keep you out of trouble. 1) Remove the original two-wire AC cord and replace wi...

Glad to hear it. I'm a baritone, and I was given one of these mics for Christmas. I haven't even had a chance to try it out, though.
