Re: so why is it so bad to mix in the box?
After 8 years of mixing EXCLUSIVELY in the box (all PT), I booked some time at another studio (heresy!!!) to finally try mixing exclusively on a console. I had read numerous threads like this one in numerous places, and finally just decided to see what I thought. It may have been the Neve, but there...

Re: Someone else mixing my work...
1. Any hints/tips on how I should organise the PT files to be sent to him? I've done an ass-load of edits on vocals etc. to cut out headphone bleed. I take it this is the done thing..? Anything else? I typically ask for consolidated tracks. So dupe a heavily edited track, consolidate it and then dis...

Re: AHHH!
One sneaky little way around this MAY be to create a brand new virgin session in PT5 or PT6, and use the track import tool under the filemenu. This way you aren't opening from the icon specifically. If everything imports in a an acceptable fashion, you can then SAVE AS. Then the session headers are ...

Re: inexpensive mastering anyone?
$75? Not to be a downer, but there is a really good chance that you will get exactly what you pay for on that one. I wouldn't want to inflict a $75 mastering job on any project that I had poured blood, sweat and tears into, but I guess you do what you have to.

Digi will be Digi. This is a pretty common gripe. You can't really accuse them of being stupid, though. You just have to play by their rules. For the time being anyway.
The M-Box is a pretty usefull little beast one way or the other. At least it doesn't need independant power, right?

Re: Help! I need a sound effect sample
http://www.sounddogs.com Type in orchestral tuning. You will get a few results... This is a site that requires a (free) registration, and payment per sample, but they have the best professional selection I have seen in eight years. You can choose your format, too, which rocks, and they are all immed...

Re: a question about accurate headphones....please help!!!
http://www.headphone.com offers a good selection. They have some reasonable information regarding all of the models they sell, and only slight biases. It's a great place to start....

Re: Studio rules? (Long.)
After several broken items, vomit in the fish-tank and stolen stuff galore, we finally moved to making people sign a list of rules, which includes a damage deposit. Not everybody sucks, obviously, but those that do can really impact the old bottom line. The rules are sent out with the initial bookin...

Re: what sounds better cd or vinyl
Not to wade in over my head, but gear would have an amazingly large amount to do with it. If you compare a $65,000 turntable to a $30 cd player, the results would be pretty obvious. What interests me is where in the audiophile price range the two would be at the very least comparable. I have been wo...

Re: Can Bluetooth be a problem in a studio?
I have a few things shooting the magic tooth all over the room, and haven't had any issues yet. Possibly in ultra-sick mastering situations, or if you accidentally have the head-guard on a tape machine down for some odd reason while recording... haven't tried. But for day to day it seems to be just ...

We use the expected,PS2's, Xbox, multiple tv's, wireless internet. We had foosball, but we got too competative. We started playiing bands for studio time... the accountant got pissed... We also installed a hot tub. That has been MAJOR. We are not a big by any means, but it all adds to the vide prett...

Interestingly enough, Todd, I interned for you. And Jules, I once replied to one of your requests for an intern/assistant. Being a commonwealther (half Aussie, half American citenzenship), i was going to come across the pond. You replied that you were looking specifically and only for people who act...
