Well, they compared an original recording (dunno what rate/bit depth this file was but assume something at least at 44.1k 24 bit) to .mp3 files running at 112Kbps, 56Kbps and 32Kbps. Sometimes the 112Kbps file scored higher than the original file. Virtually no one listens to .mp3s at those low sampl...

Re: Renew Avid Upgrade plan?

I just got an alert from Avid, that my first year of the Avid upgrade plan is coming to a close. I'd bought the PT12+1yr upgrade about a year ago. Honestly, I haven't even installed PT12. I'm still running 11, because I only use PT for tracking, and this was a 'rebuilding year' for me; bought a hou...

Re: Hafler P-3000 Amp Repair?

Hello..My Hafler P-3000 took a nose dive on me. ..Anyone here worked on/repair these Hafler amps? If so, would you give me a PM if you may be interested in taking a look at mine.Thanks.! It depends on the cost of repair. The Hafler P3000 is a very good amp and is a robust build. I've had two ...

The Digi003 clock is fine. Try some null tests with it and any other clock of AD converter you choose. You'll find files null at least -60 to -70 dB below RMS levels and the only difference left are found in high frequencies. If you want to add more channels, add an 8 channel un it with ADAT connect...

Re: SDC tube mics

I've been thinking about getting some vintage tube condensers. I'm looking for a pair that is not crazy expensive, articulate but not harsh. I've been seeing schoeps come up a good amount and have been wondering if any of you have experience with the cm64 or similar models (or maybe the altec 21?) ...

Take a look at the 3 Zigma CHI mics. Quite nice, well built and reasonably priced.

I have a pair. They are quite nice of solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I have better mics. Nonetheless, the A6 pair is quite pleasing to work with and listen to.

I only record solo fingerstyle and classical guitar. The pres I have are (i) Pendulum Audio MDP-1a (tube), (ii) Pendulum Audio SPS-1 (SS) and (iii) ADK AP2 (SS) with 5 op amp pairs and 4 input transformer pairs. The most versatile pre is the ADK, which is not surprising given the 20 different input ...
