I've never actually heard digital "coldness" or "harshness" or "edge" as a function of the medium. never? c'mon we've all heard it. did you hear those same tracks off a tape machine to compare? I think by 'as a function' the professor meant 'a desirable attribute' or something along those lines. I ...

i've been using one in combination with a royer 121 on guitar cabs lately. i'm really digging the balance between the two. the figure 8 setting and the pad have been more helpful than i thought they'd be in this setup. i like this mic alot.

By this I mean a sound where you here mostly the body of the snare but very little of the snares themselves. also, 12 strand wires let the drum resonate alot more than 16 or 20. While I don't necessarily disagree with most of what has been said here (except the 'fewer snares equals dryer sound' sen...

i'd say top mic a deep snare too. also, 12 strand wires let the drum resonate alot more than 16 or 20. and if you can't get another set of wires you can always cut an old one.

that thing is incredible. i used one on a record a year and a half ago. the producer had it and said "you're not gonna believe this thing". i looked at him and said "i already don't". great sound though.

i agree with derrick. that amp seems to disagree with any kind of distortion/overdrive in the worst way. it's not the cheapest solution but getting a dedicated dirty amp could be the best move. another good option might be a sansamp. the speaker-emulation junk on the sansamp might take the cringe ou...
