Re: TL-Audio M-3 Mixer.
i've had one for about a year now. i know the price jumped considerably since i got mine. i'm really happy with it. it's definitely not transparent. i love it for drums or anything that needs good "grain". the eq's are cool. i've found that it doesn't take much knob twisting to get alot out of the e...

the end product is quite a bit more interesting then the sum of it's parts. maybe that's what i'd have to do to enjoy today's music....

Re: Recording metal-ish drums
i was just listening to megadeth's rust in pieces and thinking about how the drums must have been huge, tuned low and set up with remo pinstripe heads on the toms. 20 years ago everything had pinstripes on it. and the toms were all deep as hell too. i think if you can get big deep drums it will defi...

Re: Guitar Cabinets
the mesa thiele cabinet sounds like a 4x12 and it's only a single 12. i've heard that the bogner 1x12 is the same way. great for the studio. anyone out there using weber speakers in their cabs? i'm considering an alnico blue dog for an open 1x12 combo.

Re: dp4 bounce to disk issue.
if you havent already tried, try selecting all the audio in one of the editing windows (not the individual soundbite window but a window like sequence editor). i know if you have only one track selected it will only bounce one track so in order to protect myself against my own haste, i make it part ...

Re: ibook or powerbook? does it really matter?
high tek is right. it's all about the system bus. i've used a few different i books and powerbooks and the bus speed made more of a difference than the processor speed when working with audio. i've always assumed that even if you have a 1.5 ghz processor you're doomed if your sys bus is under 133 mhz.

Re: say WHAT?!? new mellotron?
noel gallagher's mellotron looks like stage props from the original star trek. i have the roland vintage synth card and i use the tron strings patches on everything. i think the mixture of the dull and harsh tones sit in a mix better than those garbage hi-fi triton strings anyday. i could only imagi...

Re: just ordered - shure sm7 and ev 635
it just seems to me that my money is probably better spent on things like the Sm7 or Re20, 635, 421 etc, than many of the sub $500 condensers. i believe there is a serious curve in general quality between $500-$1500. this is a broad generalzation but it seems that as you spend more in this range yo...

Re: Opinions on Carvin gear
i've had both the 1 x 12 vintage 50 combo and the 4 x 10 vintage half stack. in my experiences i've found the combo has a good clean sound but the overdrive is vague and whispy. the 4 x 10 head has good sounds when plugged into other cabs and the cab sounds great with other heads... go figure. i've ...

Re: Digital Performer question
as far as opening it in other saved projects? i know you can make a layout and save it as a template for when you open new projects. you can also create a window set with your own layout but that won't effect your input setup in existing projects.

that's cool. it's like de-snaring as to de-essing. with some noodling that could probably create some interesting sounds outside of repair.

Re: Score of the week
i didn't score a good price but i just got a fulltone tube tape echo. i've been pretending i'm lee perry for a few days now. this will go on for a while cause there won't be any new gear for a bit after that pricetag.
