Controller w/ Faders for Tracktion?
I'm loving my free licenses to Tracktion. For some of you who have used it with an honest to God USB/Firewire controller with faders, what do you recommend for controlling Tracktion? Mackie has a line of boards (the name of which escapes me) that you can buy in 8, 12, and 16 channel versions that yo...

Re: Classic recordings that are out of tune
I didn't feel like scrolling through 7 pages, but if no one has mentioned Black Love by The Afghan Whigs , I'm going to. That album is littered with Greg Dulli's gloriously off-key vocals. Somebody mentioned Pavement being more charming than Malkmus & The Jicks because of the singing around notes. O...

Re: Belle & Sebastian
With all due respect back, I disagree again. The songs are indeed great, but Belle and Sebastian were getting on the path to redundancy, and maybe that's why they decided to go with a different producer. Do you think The Beatles would've made a "A Day In The Life" if they were content to make every ...

Re: Belle & Sebastian
I like the production on the new record, but not for B&S. The strings sound too epic, if that makes any sense. This type of thinking really bothers me. If a band was expected to sound the same on every record and never used different production methods or tried new ways of making records, they'd ge...

Re: Otari mx5050 8 track- the 'sound' of analog?
Hey man. I know exactly what you're talking about. I recently acquired a 2 track tape machine, and my goal is basically to use it as an effect. Have my bass player and drummer track to it in stereo, and then send the tape output to my digital machine. That way my rhythm section gets the "tape treatm...

Re: Question about an Effect used by Elliott Smith???
I was under the impression that his studio and Dave McConnell's (The Basement on The Hill, as referenced by the title of the record) had A LOT of old school gear. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he was using a Leslie Rotating Speaker as a guitar cabinet.

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
All I'm saying is I'm gonna buy like four or five 1/4" reels for my Tandberg 2 Track, and just keep recording over stuff until the tape deteriorates. It'll be all hip and lo-fi once the tape gets to a certain wear point.

Belle & Sebastian
Anybody else impressed with the mid-fi 60's pop production of their latest one Dear Catastrophe Waitress? I'm especially fond of "Step Into My Office, Baby" and "Wrapped Up In Books".
Anybody know any details about those sessions, who produced them and what gear was used, I'd love to know.

Re: My favorite Led Zep right now. . .
Can I get an amen for Houses of The Holy ? That's by far my favorite Zeppelin album. The way "Song Remains The Same" bleeds into the pensive first chords on "Rain Song". The way they randomly turn into James Brown's backing band on "The Crunge" (Where's that confounded bridge?). The urgency of "Danc...

To whoever dissed "Tangerine", I feel that song is like Tangerine the fruit: when you're eating it, you're always wishing you were eating a Navel Orange instead.

Anyone going to NAMM 2005?
Any TapeOp Boarder's heading to NAMM 2005 in Anaheim? Or should I say, Los Angeles NAMM 2005 of Anaheim? (Sorry, I'm just a little bitter over Arte Moreno changing the name of my beloved Angels)...
I'll be there, along with my kid brother, the 12 year old drumming phenom playing with his jazz band.

Re: Broken gear stories. How did it happen? How much did you
One night my buddy was dropping me off after a gig, I unloaded my shit load of gear out of his late 90s camaro. I couldn't carry all the gear at once so I took a few amps up to my door and I left my les paul behind. He thought I had taken all my gear and decided to back out of my driveway. I hear th...

Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
Thanks to whoever posted this thread. I tried out Tracktion for the first time on a mix down session last night and the program is just so darn intuitive. What's even better is, while the music is playing through, all the effects I add and tweak affect the music in real time! I've used a few other p...

Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
Thanks for the input wing... I think I'm going to try mixing a few of my mix down sessions with it and see how it goes. Do you by chance have any sort of users manual to it in .pdf format that I can skim through to see how easy it would be to do certain things with it? I'd like to check some more th...
