Re: Scully 280´s MIC LINE Preamps

boy, I haven't logged in here in a coon's age. I might have been part of that discussion back in 2004. I used to run Scully 280's all the time and really loved the way they sounded unmodified. Yeah, there's lots of "noisy" transformers that the signal goes through, but I found that part of the magic...

yeah, kslight, your gain staging seems a little odd. you tried going into the instrument input from your send, right? that still isn't technically correct, but these things are somewhat forgiving that way. running the output to a mic amp seems wrong too. Can you select that channel as an instrument ...

first thing to know (and maybe you do already) is that an RE-201 is an instrument level device. I always got the best response by busting line level down with a Reamp (insert copywrite thingy here) type impedence matcher, then into the echo, then out of the echo into a DI to come back up to line lev...

would not hesitate if I was in the market. Chris is a super nice and very knowledgable guy, especialy regarding MCI gear. Sold him my JH16 a number of years ago and was an easy transaction and allowed a meetup for a bit of recording geek speak. I'd buy from him, no problem...

let the microphone/preamp choice deliver the dirt? Set up a separate mic path on the clean amp and go nuts. Another alternative is mic the strings as she plays the takes and mess with that with mic choice and preamp drive and such. that one will be bright and attacky and will take messing with witho...

there is a Yahoo! group devoted to Scully machines. Strongly suggest you join, as you will more than likely need the help of that group to keep your machine running. There are some Scully users here, but not too many with the kind of specialized experience you can get from the Yahoo! group...

looks pretty much like either a Gotham Audio or an original EMT control box. I had one for one of my EMTs. The original EMT documentation I had once upon a time had schematics for the controller and the damper drive unit. I don't know if I saved a copy of those docs when my plates were sold, but I c...

Not to hijack my own thread or anything, but how would you people mic that kit with 2 sdc's and an LDC at your disposal? I'm thinking find a spot peeking over each kick's resonant rim that's equidistant from the snare and aimed at the snare for each sdc, and then find the spot for the single OH, sa...
