Looking at my mix ... most of my snare tone is coming from the sample I took from the overheads! Which was a Trident 4T (same mic pre as the S20 though). The S20 is on the snare top and bottom. The overhead mic was a Shure SM81 ... snare top is an Audix i5 and snare bottom is a Shure SM57.

They wanted the "as perfect / radio as you can get it" mix ... every note is AutoTuned :) ... literally every note, not ashamed to say so either.

Trident S20 (thumbs up)

I have owned a Trident S20 pre for awhile now ... it was my first "higher" end pre. The more sessions I use it on, the more I like it. Just got done with another drum session where I used it on the snare. I've done sessions with snares going through GTQ-2's, 2108's, API's, etc. and this guy has give...

Unfortunately, the room I had wasn't too great :( It was fairly large, which was a plus. However, it had tile floor and was a square, ceilings were about 20 feet. I'm not familiar with Drumagog. Tab to transient is just a method of getting your cursor to the very beginning of the next transient in a...

I didn't use any type of plugin / program for the triggering. I tab to transient every single kick hit, every snare, tom, etc. I have the drummer hit each drum at different intensities, then create a library of my own, that way it's the same kit. I'd actually say about 70% of what you are hearing ar...

Drumsound, I completely agree :) I have been able to record one or two bands that the musicians were talented, and very little editing was applied! I am still at the stage of recording 16 year old pop / punk bands where a lot of the musicians do not know the difference between a G chord and an A cho...

Less is More ( one of my long rants )

The last two bands I have mixed have been a huge step for me. I've learned that really, less is more. Before I start, I track / mix mostly modern pop / punk / hardcore / alternative / etc. My goal is to edit (A LOT) until I think the tracks are almost perfect (I don't have the pleasure of recording ...

I'll post there stuff in a week or two. Except this time, it's back at my own studio ... which will be recieving two Ne...

Fullsail is located in Florida I believe. There is another highly well known recording school in Arizona called The Conservatory of Recording Arts. I graduated from that school over a year ago. The band on this recording rented out a located studio (by day) and hired me to come engineer it there. Th...
