Just for the record, let me represent for Matt at 30th Street Guitars in Manhattan. Prince of a guy and he does great work.

Re: Silver or Gold e609???
Amazing. Thanks Doc!
I do still wonder what could be so different between the silver and black varieties, other than the price. Build quality? Better components? SOUND?? Maybe it's time to do an A/B at Ye Olde Mic Shoppe.

Re: Silver or Gold e609???
I'll just add to the confusion, but Sweetwater has the e609 Silver for 99 bucks. Now, they also have the e609 Black for $229!
OK, so the gold ones are 'vintage' and probably a lot different from the modern versions. But what is the difference between the new silver and black ones?

Re: HOW DID NICK LOWE DO IT????
This thread reminded me of a great interview with Lowe that was in The Onion about a year ago. http://www.theonionavclub.com/avclub3827/avfeature_3827.html He has some interesting things to say about fame, the music business, and songwriting. If you are a fan it is definitely worth a look. "She was ...

I also can't offer anything specific, but I heard that his nickname "Basher" came from his approach to recording in the studio. That is, just bash it out. I can relate to that! And listen to any of his "solo" records from the early 80s. They are rough gems. (I put solo in quotes because those record...

Re: Any Spring reverb addicts out there?
Thanks for the input on my problems with the Demeter Reverb. I have had it for a couple of years and these problems have all developed recently. I will try a bunch of things this weekend to try and sort it out and will let you know what happens. One thing I have noticed lately, and this is the weird...

Re: Any Spring reverb addicts out there?
Does anybody else here have a Demeter Real Reverb? I ask because I do, and it is damn near unusable because it picks up so much radio interference. Nothing else in my studio is as bad as this device. I use balanced cables, even hooked it through an Ebtech Hum Eliminator, nothing works. I guess I cou...

Re: Space Echo
456 will definitely work and I have used in my RE-201. However, I heard recently that a tape without backing will work better, and is what is supposed to go in there. You can tell the right kind of tape because, unlike 456, it will be shiny and the same color on both sides. I remember that Radio Sha...

Re: Sonic Maximizers
I used to use one on the mix buss when recording with a Fostex R-8. It was great for "undoing" some of the negative effects of the cheap noise reduction on that deck. That is, it brought back the clarity and sparkle. But you had to be way careful to not overdo it as it could end up sounding harsh on...

Re: Alternatives to foam and fiberglass
In my room I have six very large (3'x4') cork bulletin boards, with wood frames, that I liberated from an office building. I think they look pretty good compared to all that gray foam. All they may really be doing is taming the flutter echo a bit, but they do help. (I also use big Lenrd traps in the...

Re: Tascam 1/2 in. 8-trk repair around NYC?
There are some places in the city that can do it (Rogue Music, for one), but if you have a vehicle, I would highly recommend you take it out to New Jersey Factory Service. They are authorized Tascam repair people, have many of the parts on hand and are the just the best. Period. http://www.njfactory...

FS: dbx 200X signal router
This is a used "Program Route Selector". It is very handy for hooking up tape decks or other recorders for making multiple dupes from the same source. It is also useful for interfacing home stereo components with your recording set-up. It is 1U rack size but lacks the ears, and all connectors on bac...

Re: SPIDF - any real world uses?
I had a Sony Minidisk deck that had optical SPDIF in/outs. It was handy for transfering stuff from MD straight into my MOTU 828.
