I got mine a couple of days ago. It reminded me I was behind on reading TapeOp (which rarely happens). So I start reading No. 49 and get another lesson in why you don't want to get behind. I find a great Apogee give away. I go the URL for a TapeOp specific contest and find out I am too late. I shoul...

Re: which 8 tracks?
I was thinking the bass and mandolin on 1 track would be ok, but I guess it depends on how you are going to mix this. I would want to move the 8 tracks in to a DAW and then mix. In that case you can duplicate the bass/mandolin track and EQ them seperately. Dumping all the lows should leave you just ...

Re: SSL for sale
I think we should start a fund and have TapeOp readers buy SSL. Kind of like the cheap ribbon mic post.
I will start us off with $100 US.

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 2-05-05
My son and I burnt a large part of our brush pile. We had cut down a lot of bushes around the house to let them grow back in better shapes a month or so ago. We don't have a safe place to burn the whole pile, but we have a fire ring that will hold a good size campfire. So we get it started and break...

Re: Thoughts on 'Social Security Reform'
I would start SS reform with the addition of 2 numbers to those reports they send out telling you what your benefit would be. The first number is how much you and your employer have paid in. The second is the return rate that generates your supposed benefit. I suspect the large size or the first one...

I could definetly tell the difference in the 2 songs. By 2003 they had figured out how to compress it even more. The right speaker is clearly louder.

Re: BLUE sure has lots of balls
I have been thinking about trying to pick up a ball mic on the cheap to use as a talkback mic. I do like the look.
As far as a flying saucer mount, I think a larger disk with 5 plus mics mounted around it for surround sound would look wild.

I'll be wearing a black burber (sp?) sweater under a full length leather coat.

Easily switching left and right for secondary monitors
I sometimes route sound to an old Panasonic receiver to drive some decent home stereo speakers. This makes a decent sanity check for mixes. My problem is that my control room is a very small room off a bonus room. The door is directly behind the mix position and I have these alternate speakers on ei...

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 1-05-05
I redid my monitoring a little, so I can turn down the monitor volume independent of the headphones. I also switched the source for the first 4 inputs of my Delta 1010 to come from the sub outs instead of the first 4 channels of my mixer. I just have a Mackie 1604, but I typically refer to it as a 1...

Re: Alesis HD24 Tips.
I can relate the way I use my HD24. I use it for recording live performances. Usually I am also running live sound (or at least involved in the live sound). I take feeds from the live board inserts (or direct outs when available). Usually I end up with a signal that is only dependent on the trim lev...

Re: question for Blues Jr. users...
I think you already realize the Blues Jr. is going to work for you. But I provide live sound for a band and the lead player uses a Blues Jr. He only runs it on about 2 and we mic it with a 57 and run it into the PA. It gets a lot louder if you just barelt turn it up from his normal position. We usua...
